100% scandi-chic: a house in the Swedish outback

This bright and spacious house in Velling clearly proves that the Scandinavian style is not only white and natural wood

The living room, which is divided into two zones: a sitting area with a soft sofa, and a dining area with a table.

Hellviken is a small Swedish town in the municipality of Vellinge, located near the sea coast with fantastic landscapes, many kilometers of sandy beaches and waves, for which surfers from all over Sweden come here. Many idyllic villages with old houses and farmlands have been preserved near it, and the famous Fonteviken Museum is very close by — a real Viking village in the open air, which attracts tourists, ethnographers and reenactors from all over the world.

Living room combined with dining room. Visually, both zones are separated by carpets on the floor and lamps above the dining table and coffee table. Chairs, vintage.

On the eastern outskirts of Hellviken stands this brick two-storey house with a total area of 175 square meters with classic Scandinavian interiors. Of course, you immediately imagine white walls, natural wood and minimalistic style? But this project clearly proves that the Scandinavian style is much broader than a set of standard cliches.

There are a lot of colors, prints and decor in this project, which decorates almost every wall. At the same time, it retains all those features for which we love the Scandinavians: conciseness, wood, love and attention to detail, abundance of light and "air".

On the wall above the sofa there are photo collages and drawings, as well as small vases for flowers.

The first thing you see when you get into the house is a living room combined with a dining room. The walls here are painted in a pleasant "celadon" color — the lightest of grayish-green shades. It goes well with wood and living greenery, which, according to Scandinavian traditions, is quite a lot here. And not only in pots and vases: even the walls in the living room are decorated with drawings of palm trees. And — like the cherry on the cake — small vases for flowers and live twigs that are attached directly to the wall. A trifle, but so talking!

Hallway. In contrast to the main room on the ground floor, it is covered with wallpaper with an active geometric ornament.

In contrast to the main hall of the first floor with solid greenish-gray walls, the entrance area is covered with wallpaper with an active geometric ornament. It visually highlights the hallway, gives a small room dynamics, so that it seems larger than it is. The monochrome pattern on the walls enters into a curious dialogue with the chess pattern on the floor, as if flowing into the living room area and giving the interior an organicity and integrity.

Here, on the ground floor, there is a kitchen, a study with a dressing room and a master bedroom.

For the kitchen walls, the designers chose a darker gray-blue color, which is perfectly combined with white furniture and white facades of the kitchen set, finished with natural wood. A spectacular detail is a black bench at the table, which breaks the symmetry and brings the effect of surprise. Near the table on the wall there is a rack for newspapers and magazines — so that the morning press is always at hand, as in a trendy hipster cafe.

Kitchen, fragment. The chairs and the bench at the dining table are made in the same style, but differ in contrast in color, giving the space dynamics.

Dark brown tiles with a horizontal pattern are harmoniously combined here with white kitchen facades and long handles of drawers and doors.

From the kitchen you can go out to the covered terrace, covered with wild grapes: here the owners of the house like to gather the whole family for a cup of tea, conversations and board games. A glass roof, comfortable garden furniture, a rug under your feet and a cozy "country" lampshade create a soulful atmosphere here, which is equally well suited for a party in a Rolling Fool, and for evening tea parties.

The work area is also located on the ground floor of the house. There is also a spacious wardrobe.

The house has several bedrooms. The main one is located on the ground floor. Its design is laconic and calm — a minimum of furniture, white walls, simple textiles — everything here contributes to rest and a good sleep. Unlike most Scandinavian houses, there are no traditional curtains here: they are replaced by modern roller shutters.

On the second floor, in the attic, there are children's rooms

The first is a real kingdom of forest fairies — with green wallpaper, colorful armchairs and a canopy bed. The room is small, but thanks to the low furniture, white painted floor and uncluttered, it does not look small. It's light and spacious here. A soft carpet on the floor adds comfort.

The second nursery is made in a more restrained style, but here you can also notice a lot of small but cute details that add comfort. This is a miniature yellow lamp on the wall, and a floor mirror that visually increases the space of a fairly small room.

In general, despite the apparent simplicity, the interior of the house turned out to be thoughtful, harmonious and integral. Here everything is in moderation and everything is in its place. The coloristic solutions are perfectly matched for each room, in the atmosphere vintage objects from flea markets and second-hand furniture are combined with items from Scandinavian designer brands and IKEA. And most importantly, this house proves once again that the Scandinavian style is not only white walls, and we really like it!
