We have collected impressive examples of "before" and "after", which clearly show how you can make apartments in old houses modern and comfortable.

1 Apartment where vintage and modernity coexist
The designer designed this apartment in Stalinka in 1958 for a young couple. Both are fond of music, the hostess collects vintage. The main wish for the renovation was to design a visually more spacious space. It was necessary to plan functional areas so that it would be convenient for the family to spend time together, and if necessary, to retire. In addition, the customers asked to provide a lot of storage space and arrange one of the rooms so that it could later be adapted for a nursery. To realize all the wishes, the designer proposed to get rid of the long corridor and make an enfilade layout with rooms flowing into each other. A dressing room was allocated in the bedroom, and the partition between the bathroom and the bathroom was moved to get more proportional rooms.
Paint and wallpaper were chosen for finishing in some areas, and laminate flooring imitating parquet and tiles with a bright pattern were laid on the floor. Taking into account the hostess's hobby, modern and vintage items were combined in the interior. So an old Dagestan carpet, a Soviet underwear, a retro seat appeared in the apartment, which was restored and brought from another city.

2 Apartment with bright details and gray ceiling
This three-piece in the panel of the II-49D series was remade for spouses who like to receive guests. Among the requests was a separate room for an office, which at the same time would be a recreation area, as well as a place for a piano and a home library. In addition, the owners wanted their apartment to have enough storage space, a laundry room, as well as a thoughtful and functional kitchen. The designer was inspired by the personalities of the customers and offered several bold solutions. So accent wallpaper with an active pattern appeared in the living room, and the ceiling in the bathroom was painted gray.
The changes affected not only the design, but also the layout: the bathroom and the bathroom were combined, and the partitions between the corridor and the living room were removed to get a more open space. The master bedroom was moved to the former nursery, and the room with the loggia was made an office, allocating space there for two small storerooms.

3 Apartment, which was turned into two mini-studios
This apartment in the house of 1900 was divided into two apartments for subsequent rental. In each of the isolated rooms, it was possible to arrange not only a recreation area, but also a full kitchen, storage systems and bathrooms. Only the hallway-hallway remained common. Since the studios are not intended for permanent residence, the designer used bright colors and bold solutions that create a wow effect. Antiques were added to the interior (for example, an old wardrobe in a crimson apartment and oak chairs with an armchair in blue), which was combined with stucco and modern furniture in a similar style. They also left an old stove and emphasized it with a vintage crystal chandelier. Despite the modest area, the palette was made complex and saturated, which resulted in an incredibly spectacular and beautiful interior.

4 A full-fledged apartment on the site of a room in a communal apartment
The studio, unique in its functionality, managed to be designed from just one room in an old house in St. Petersburg. The building of the Directorate of the Imperial Theaters was built in 1835. The original area was tiny with only 11 squares. Even by the standards of an average panel, this is not enough for a functional room, not to mention to fit a kitchen, hallway, bathroom and bedroom there. But the designer managed to do this primarily thanks to the mezzanine floor, on which they placed a bed and a TV, thus arranging a recreation area. On the first tier of the room, a kitchenette and a dining area were made, which also acts as a workplace, as well as an entrance hall and a mini-bathroom with a shower were allocated. They didn't forget about storage either: the staircase was turned into a closet, there is also a place in the kitchen set and on an open shelf to the side of the dining area. The decoration was chosen simple, in neutral tones and without patterns to make the tiny space visually larger.

5 One-bedroom apartment with three-piece functionality
This two-bedroom apartment in the five-storey building II-14 was converted for a young man, a teacher at the university. The original layout was practically not changed, only the large room was divided into two separate zones. One was given for a bedroom, and the second was turned into an office with a large work desk, on which large-format drawings are placed, necessary for the owner to work. In order not to block the natural light, the designer chose a glass partition. Its installation does not require approval from the BTI. Since the young man is fond of cooking, the kitchen was made as functional as possible, allocating space for a roomy headset and all necessary appliances. The apartment was decorated in Scandinavian style, but with an abundance of bright details: from rich yellow paint for part of the walls to a graphic apron and accent wallpaper in the bedroom.

6 Apartment with a complex palette and bright solutions
The interior of this apartment in The house of the Narkomsvyaz employees was designed for an active and successful girl. Therefore, the task was to combine the historical spirit of Stalinist architecture and modern techniques. Initially, the apartment had a different layout, which included such outdated elements as a maid's room in the kitchen and two corridors. We got rid of all this by enlarging the corridor and combining the bathroom. In a large living room, three functional zones were designed at once: a bedroom, a seating area and a full-fledged office. The palette was chosen complex, spectacular: there are dark deep, and bright, and soft confectionery shades. The designer did not adhere to one style and designed the interior based on the rules of composition, coloristics and ergonomics.

7 Interior at the junction of three styles with the charm of antiquity
This apartment is located in an old house built in 1905, which is included in the list of cultural heritage sites. The customer wanted to preserve the historical spirit of this place and the charm of antiquity. She also asked to equip a separate dressing room, a living room, a place to relax and work: a young girl who plans to live in an apartment is still studying. The hostess left the choice of style to the designer. The result was an atmospheric space at the junction of classics, Scandinavian style and vintage.
