Architect Guta Luru created the interiors of a house in New York State for an international couple, which reflected both the American scope and the Brazilian love of playful design

This 1928 house, located in the American Irvington, New York, is quite spacious — 382 m2. Until recently, its owner, an American geneticist, lived there alone and did not worry about the situation until he met his love — a pediatrician from Brazil. Having decided to build a family nest, they turned to architect Guta Louro for a project to renovate the interiors.

"The house was in excellent condition, but it deserved to reflect the energy of the owners and the new stage of their life. The owner wanted this place to become a happy family nest and at the same time suitable for large receptions and gatherings with friends and colleagues. An important request was the preservation of several pieces of furniture that were bought just before the wedding and renovation. Fortunately, they fit perfectly into the library," says Guta, who currently works for two countries (between her own office in Sao Paulo Gutalurodesigns and the American office of SpliceDesign with branches in New York, Atlanta and Austin).

According to the architect, inspiration came to her during one of the conversations with the couple about their favorite songs and artists — to her surprise, both mentioned Bruce Springsteen ("the poet of rock and roll"), whom she also loves. "At that moment, I realized that it was important to reflect the energy and light atmosphere in the project, similar to the tastes of the owners," says Guta.

In the library, the furniture that the client already had was put on, only changed into new fabrics, and the walls were painted in a vanilla yellow shade to create a sense of comfort. This large space, located near the entrance and adjacent to the main living room, has become an ideal place for more intimate receptions, as well as one of the favorite corners of the owners of the house.

Although the layout was not changed, but simply installed new furniture and chose a different decor, Guta Luru was able to completely change the mood of the house. The appearance of the nursery has become a separate chapter in this story. When the repair was already coming to an end, it turned out that the family is expected to replenish and they are about to have a baby. So I had to urgently make a room for him.

The parents wanted their son's room to be different from the usual nursery, suitable for a boy and at the same time practical and cheerful. For decoration, the architect chose wallpaper with a balloon print and soft shades of white, blue and gray.

Neutral shades predominate in the parents' bedroom, which were diluted with curtains of a soft blue shade. The butterflies above the bed added a playful touch, as did the mirrored dressing table opposite the bed.
