A house for a large family in Vietnam

Story Architecture Studio from Ho Chi Minh City has designed a harmonious living space for a family of several generations

Small by modern standards (260 square meters) the house looks spacious thanks to the glass roof and a large number of window openings of different shapes that let in streams of light.

On the ground floor, where the Story Architecture team has organized a spacious common area, natural light scatters the foliage of the trees. The white walls serve as a kind of canvas for swaying shadows. The master bedroom is located in the far part and opens onto a small courtyard with a garden.



On the second floor there are children's bedrooms, the doors of which open into the atrium flooded with sunlight. A wide staircase leading to this level serves as a library and reading room. There is a small bookcase and a reading area with steps on which it is convenient to sit with a book.


On the topmost level there is a small area of "family prayer solitude", the window of which overlooks the neighboring church. When designing the house, the architects were guided by the religious beliefs of the family: the dormer windows have a cone-shaped shape corresponding to the shape of the church.


Sunlight permeates all levels of the house: by letting it in, the architects have made the space more complex and interesting, and, importantly, constantly changing. Not only with the change of seasons, but also during the
