Arina Karpova is a restorer by education, she mastered this profession in Italy, where she lived for some time. This is probably why Arina feels so subtly how it is possible to simply and unobtrusively create an interior with a story.

The owners of this house in the Moscow region found her through friends, and they had such a good relationship that as a result, many things from the designer's personal collection settled in their interior. Arina was faced with the task of decorating the main house and the guest house, combined with a bath, while doing with minimal investments. "The customers built both houses more than ten years ago and even started to repair them, but eventually abandoned them and did not come here until recently," Arina says.

Let's start with a guest house with a sauna: this is a wooden log house with an area of 80 sq.m., in which there is a living room with a kitchen, two bedrooms and a sauna. The textured log walls were not covered with anything, only the lower part, which was sewn up with boards, was painted in different colors: green in the living room, red in one bedroom, and blue in the other. All shades are saturated, to match the general atmosphere: there are few windows and they are small, so the rooms are a little gloomy. "This is a space for relaxation, so I wanted to make it cozy by adding dark and deep tones," explains Arina.

The table and bed are the property of the owners. The bed was covered with a new fabric. The red decorative pillow was brought from Turkey.

She was asked to put in order and "resuscitate" both houses in which no one had lived for a long time. There were no global alterations here, the layout also remained unchanged. "We did not fix or close some flaws on purpose, because they did not contradict the general concept and helped to create the right atmosphere," says Karpova. For example, picturesque cracks on beams and ends of logs or in places a worn plank floor give a sense of history, as if the interior has been for many years.

The furniture was selected appropriately, custom-made or partially aged. Some things bought by customers at the beginning of the repair also fit into this collection. And the real attributes of the old times added authenticity to the whole story. So, on an antique sideboard you can see a portrait of Leo Tolstoy by an unknown author, in one of the bedrooms there is an old portrait bought by Arina in Madrid, and in the living room there is a vintage carpet, it was found in Yerevan. By the way, an interesting fact: the Russian—inspired interior was assembled from international items - there are also pillows brought by Arina Karpova from Turkey.

The atmosphere is generally neutral, so that both the spouse and his company and the hostess and her friends are equally comfortable in the guest house. And the interior doesn't feel like it's brand new. "That's exactly the impression I wanted to create, I like it when everything looks "lived", — explains Arina. — Customers did not believe that something would come out of our idea, they were going to sell houses, and now they want to come here."

The main house is completely different in mood. If the guest house has eclecticism with a Russian style bias, then classics with French notes appear here. These are also echoes of architecture: the house is built of brick with classical elements on the facade. It was partially renovated and Arina kept those elements of it that did not contradict the idea: for example, floral wallpaper in the living room and in the bedroom of the daughter of the customers. In the rest of the rooms, she picked up monochrome wallpaper that fit into the overall color scheme. "All the furniture is mostly new, but I like it when there is at least some piece of history in every room," says the author of the project.

The master bedroom. Curbstones, vintage, 1960s, Vintage Anylopa. The painting was brought from Yerevan.

In the bay window of the living room you can see an antique table, and one of the walls has an antique cabinet. Of all the rooms, the master bedroom is different in terms of filling, it is more concise and there are Swedish vintage bedside tables from the 1960s on both sides of the bed. The customer herself at some point also joined the interior design: she has good taste and she found interesting things. As a result, everyone was satisfied with the result.
