The family of dentists Louise (Louise Riis) and Jacob Riis (Jakob Riis) have been living on the same street in Frederiksberg for 17 years. At first they had a small house, but with the advent of two children, they needed a bigger house, so in the end they bought and renovated an apartment in the house across the street. Then the third baby was born, and the family became cramped again. Their dream has always been their own house, and not just any one, but quite specific: one of the neighboring ones standing on the same street, which they have dreamed of for many years. One day their dreams came true: the family found out that it was put up for sale.

"On the same day we knocked and said that we would like to buy it. It stands two buildings away from us, and, to our great joy, the owner immediately agreed to sell it to us," recalls Jacob. — The first floor of the house has been rented out for business for more than 25 years, so it was necessary not only to update the upper rooms, but also to bring the lower level into living condition."

Jacob and Louise removed several walls on the ground floor and made a large kitchen-dining room with access to the garden. And in place of the former kitchen, a winter garden with stucco ceilings, marble floors and high windows was arranged.

Designer friend Kaia Leifsdotter helped them to plan the kitchen. "We showed her several offers from different kitchen companies, but Kaya was more interested in how we imagine the kitchen of our dreams. Well, our dreams were unusual. It had to be made of steel, marble and with rounded edges. Less than a couple of weeks later, the designer sent us her sketch — and it was just what we needed! Our kitchen turned out to be exactly what we have always dreamed of — it is perfect for both the room and our needs," says Louise.

The couple wanted to restore the original appearance of the house and, first of all, it was necessary to put in order the lower floor, which the previous owners used for commercial purposes. "We wanted to preserve the history of the house and started by restoring the old doors. Then they took casts of the few places where the historical stucco remained, so that the new details would look like the original," recalls Louise. Retro-style handles were installed on all windows and doors, the flooring was replaced and batteries were installed.

Muted shades were chosen for the rooms, only the original gray-blue cabinets in the corridor were preserved from the color accents, adding them with a red wardrobe in the hallway.

"For many years we dreamed of making a picturesque marble floor, having once seen such a thing in photos of a cafe in Tel Aviv designed by Meir Guri. We even painted it for our old kitchen, but at that time we had to abandon this idea due to the high cost. Therefore, when Kaye showed us a sketch of the floor in the bathroom, we were delighted. Our dream has become a reality, albeit on a smaller scale," says Jacob.
