Architects from Studio Duas Architecture helped the owners both in choosing a plot and in updating the house. Now all rooms offer views of the inspiring mountain landscape, and even in the sauna there is a panoramic window for admiring nature

Architects Marina Dipre and Victoria Grinman from Studio Duas Architecture renovated the house near Rio de Janeiro, opened its interiors towards the mountain landscape and adapted it to the needs of a family with two adult daughters (23 and 26 years old). In addition to the house itself, there are places to relax on the plot, including a summer kitchen with a sauna that "looks" at the mountains and the pool with a huge window.

The future owners turned to the architect at the stage of site search. "During the first visit to this house, the client was delighted with the surrounding nature and the view of the mountains, but the building itself was very different from what we were looking for. Then the owners decided on a large—scale renovation, although it was not an ideal option," recalls Marina Dipre.

The owners wanted to renovate the house and make it more open to nature around. Windows and wooden frames were replaced in the building, mountain views were revealed, floor irregularities in the living room and main bedroom were eliminated.

"Our design solutions were based on the connection of interiors with nature. We wanted to create a modern house integrated into the environment, where there is a lot of natural light in the rooms, and there are enough places to relax on the outdoor terraces," explains Victoria.

"We have replaced the old wooden staircase with a lighter and more modern metal model — one of the steps extends to the end of the wall, becoming a shelf next to the dining table. You can climb the stairs to the mezzanine, which functions as a more secluded room and a game room," says Marina.

Initially, the space of the house was divided into small rooms, with a separate dining room, pantry and kitchen. During the reconstruction, the entire public part on the second floor was combined, and one of the bedrooms was turned into a TV area - it can be connected to the kitchen and living room or closed with a panel.

On the second floor, a balcony was added to the bedrooms, which can be reached from the street by a spiral staircase. The pool area next to the summer kitchen is designed from scratch. "We tried to create an open space that does not block the view of the mountain, and designed a structure in which we placed a kitchen with a barbecue, a sauna and a bathroom. The panoramic glass of the sauna connects the interior and exterior, allowing nature to become part of the interior," explains Victoria.

Natural materials were mainly used in the decoration of the house: wood for residential interiors, tiles for bathrooms and travertine for outdoor outdoor areas.
