Apartment for a ballerina from Sisters’ Design

Sisters Irina Markidonova and Ilona Menshakova created an airy and delicate, like a Pavlova dessert, apartment interior for the ballerina and her family. This project became the leader of views on our website in August.

The main idea of the project: "Among ourselves, we called this project "Pavlov's Dessert". We were inspired by the customer herself and her family. The hostess runs a ballet studio. We wanted to develop the theme of dance, lightness and airiness in all the rooms of the apartment."

Color scheme: all shades of the dessert menu, including sponge cake, berries, milk chocolate and meringue

"We got a beautiful bright apartment with huge floor—to-ceiling windows," say decorators Irina Markidonova and Ilona Menshakova. — The sun literally flooded the space. The decision with light walls was made instantly, and the layout was formed from the wishes and lifestyle of the family: a large living room with an open kitchen, a separate study area, dressing rooms, Egor and Eva's children's rooms, a master bedroom with a dressing room and a bathroom. Sliding enfilade doors are mostly made for children — for their running, dancing and games. Egor got an unobstructed track for racing and fire trucks, and Eva is a great place to run in a beautiful jump. She is, of course, engaged in ballet."

"The customers are a young and very friendly family, they lived and studied in America for some time. The husband is a financier, the wife is a creative person, runs a ballet studio, puts on amazing performances with children of different ages, comes up with costumes and scenery. It turned out that the children of our friends and customers go to classes there with great zeal and love."

A huge kitchen island often turns into a place for children's parties and culinary experiments.

"We immediately imagined a bright space filled with juicy colors. And since the apartment is on a high floor — where there is so much sky! — then blue-blue, turning into purple, was chosen as the main shade. He brought coolness, transparency and air to the interior."

"The selection of art objects for this project began with a beautiful painting that was presented to the customer. She greets us right at the entrance to the apartment and sets the mood of the entire interior. The theme of dancing in the hallway develops in two works of Balaban, which weaves flowers into the movements of the legs and hands. Begalskaya's paintings in the living room and bedroom perfectly complement the watercolor theme."

"Children are our special pride. We have long dreamed of making box rooms where wallpaper and curtains have the same pattern. The choice of textiles and wallpaper, of course, was in favor of the much-loved Pierre Frey company. We settled squirrels with oak leaves to Eva, and lion cubs, elephants and giraffes come to visit Egor."
