The customer set three conditions for Svetlana Kovalchuk. The first is vandal—proof coatings. The second is a dressing room, laundry room, ventilation system. Third, the interior should "cling". Do you think the designer managed to complete this difficult task?

Kitchen-living room. The monochrome palette was not chosen by chance: the main emotion that the interior should evoke is calm and tranquility. The difference in volumes and textures complicates the space.

Everything is clear with the conditions: the apartment will be rented out, so you need a finish that will withstand even a very serious load. It is unknown whether people with or without children will take it off, but just in case a spacious dressing room is needed, which will fit not only adults, but also children's things. And an extra room in which you can arrange a nursery. This is more difficult, because according to the developer's plan, the apartment is two-room. But Svetlana managed to solve this problem as well.

The residential complex "Tatarstan" is located in the historical center of Kazan, nearby is the pedestrian Bauman Street, which is often called the Kazan Arbat and the Tatar Drama Theater named after Kamal, a wonderful building of the Soviet modernism era. "Perhaps that's why I intuitively chose the mid century style," says Svetlana. — I wanted to create an atmosphere of something native, from childhood, so that every guest could feel at home here."

"After visiting the apartment together with the customer, we decided to leave the rough ceilings in the living room area, because the slabs were good, and the brutality of concrete was diluted with warm wood," says the designer.

The peculiarity of the wooden wall panels used in this project is a trapezoidal docking element. Interestingly, this seemingly insignificant detail suggested several bright interior solutions to Svetlana. "In the kitchen-living room, it was important to properly distribute the zones in order to allocate a separate room (nursery), without compromising functionality," she says. "The idea, the image of a table and a cone—shaped lamp supporting the shape of a trapezoid, came to my mind immediately, the rest of the interior was built from this."

Dining group. The table is made to order in the Krasnodar company Artwel. Chairs, SK Design. Two companies participated in the creation of the lamp: Moscow Moon Room and Kazan Design Stories. The interior work in the background was done by the designers of Svetlana Kovalchuk's studio. Vase on the table, 101 Sorephadep.

This was the end of luck — the table and the lamp of the desired configuration could not be found for a long time, until Svetlana saw on the social network exactly such a table as was required for the composition. A lamp of the right shape and size was ordered in the Moscow workshop Moon Room. It came quickly and was stored at the construction site, but when it came time to hang it, it turned out that it had lost its shape. It was a serious blow, because the repair was already over, but to the designer's delight, her friends Design Stories launched their lampshade production in Kazan. As a result, two companies participated in the creation of the lamp.

The bedroom itself has an irregular geometry, but even here the trapezoid shape helped: the dressing room doors were brought forward, supported this shape by the dressing table top. Interconnected elements of the interior were formed in the room, which corrected the situation.

Bedroom, fragment. The beveled table top of the dressing table supports the trapezoidal shape of the dressing room. That, in turn, compensates for the irregular shape of the room, in terms of similar to the bow of the ship.

After the redevelopment, a spare room appeared in the apartment, which can serve as a children's, guest or study room. When designing, this variability was taken into account: there is nothing in the interior that would prevent the room from quickly "changing clothes" and playing a new role.

To make the interior memorable (you remember that this was one of the three tasks set by the customer), the designer threw "anchors" in different parts of the apartment that intrigue and hold attention. One of these chips is waiting for the future tenant in the hallway. This is a composition of a pedestal, a picture above it and a telephone set of the 1940s - 1950s. Such devices with a disk are already a rarity today.

Hallway. The chest of drawers was made according to the sketches of the author of the project in the company Mebel Home. The interior painting is made by designers based on paintings in the style of the American Midsenchuri of 1950-60. A vintage telephone with a disk was found by the customer.

The bathroom was assembled impromptu. "In the tile salon, I saw pink terrazzo tiles and a wonderful vertical mosaic of pink and blue," Svetlana recalls. "That's how the idea of a curb was born, perfectly complementing the floor tiles." As a result, there are three different manufacturers in the bathroom.

The tiles that lie on the floor in the hallway and guest bathroom have their own history. "When it came to ordering, it turned out that it was discontinued," the designer recalls. — It happens often. We found a replacement that is similar in meaning, but slightly different in pattern and color. As a result, the new tiles in gray color shaded the blue walls more strongly, and the drawing itself was very reminiscent of Soviet-era terrazzo, which played into our hands."
