Magarão + Lindenberg Architecture architects corrected the shortcomings of the old layout and removed all the old walls. The new interiors have a lot of wood, objects from Brazilian designers and... places for guests — from an extra bedroom to a long bench along the window

The owners bought this 165 m2 apartment in Ipanema (southern district of Rio de Janeiro) Even before the pandemic, the project was commissioned by architects Maurício Magarão and Alice Lindenberg from the Magarão + Lindenberg architectural bureau. "They spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect house in size and location, but immediately realized that it would take serious interventions to do everything the way they wanted," recalls Mauricio. "They asked us to make at least three bedrooms and improve the layout of the living room, making it more spacious and functional," Alice adds.

In kvarir, all the rooms were renovated and decorated, even the hall near the elevator. All the internal walls and partitions were demolished, so it was possible counterproductively. "None of the rooms remained in the same place. We added bathrooms where there were none, moved the parents' bedroom to another part of the apartment, enlarged the living room at the expense of the kitchen," says Mauricio.

According to Alice Lindenberg, an important element in the project was a kind of "portico" of a light green shade in the living room. It masks a structural support, additionally hidden by a mirror and imitates several doors that "go out" into the living room. A kitchen island has been installed within the boundaries of this portico, which serves as a bar counter, and additional storage spaces are hidden inside.

When changing the apartment, customers preferred to update all the furniture, since the old things did not fit the size and proportions of the space of the new house. Choosing furniture for the living room, the architects preferred objects of modern Brazilian design, most of which are made of natural wood.
The story of the tree continues in the floor covering (herringbone parquet), ceiling panels, at the base of the island countertop, in a modular bookcase and in a long bench made according to the sketches of architects. It is installed under the window, alas, increasing the number of seats on party days, and storage spaces are hidden under the seats.

As for colors, materials and finishes, the architects chose a neutral palette that creates a calm atmosphere, with a lot of details made of wood and light marble.
