Studio Pascali Semerdjian Arquitetos renovated an apartment with windows on Ibirapuera Park, combining Brazilian modernism of the middle of the last century with modern design

The apartment with an area of 376 square meters is divided into two zones: the public includes a living room and a dining room, the private includes three bedrooms, a kitchen, a small living room, a TV room and a guest room. There is also a wine cellar here — a random person cannot get into it.

As a result of the dismantling of the worn plaster ceiling, the original concrete ceilings of the building were opened, which the architects decided to leave open in some rooms. The plank panels lining the walls of the living room and dining room echo the concrete. Some severity of the finish is softened by natural fabrics and an abundance of green plants on the balconies. Marble and onyx enter into a dialogue with brutal materials.

The eclectic collection of furniture consists of objects from the middle of the last century, created by Brazilian and Scandinavian designers, which the architects of the project carefully mixed with modern ones. In the living room, Oscar Niemeyer's Rio chaise longue with a cane seat is in a place of honor, next to a pair of armchairs by Swedish designer Svante Skog and an armchair by Dane Kurt Osterwig. The modern design is represented by the two-sided Siri bench of Brazilian Claudia Moreira Salles.

In the dining room, elegant dining chairs by Danish designer Eric Buch support the intrigue of Prop Light Round pendant lamps by Dutch designer Bertjan Pot, similar to a flying saucer.

Design masterpieces can be seen in all rooms: in the kitchen, the console rack is complemented by high stools of the Finnish genius Alvar Aalto, in the master bedroom there are a pair of upholstered plywood chairs that Brazilian designer and architect Jose Zanin Kaldas designed in the 1950s.

The authors of the project managed to fit the items recognized as design classics into a modern minimalist interior and leave free space for those things that will come to the apartment in the near future. The fact is that its owners are not going to stop there and plan to replenish their collection.
