Natalia Zavorotishcheva was inspired to create an interior in the mid-century style by the view of the historic building of the Beijing Hotel

"Customers initially bought this apartment for themselves. But even at the very beginning of work on the project, they decided to move to live outside the city, and arrange an apartment for subsequent sale. — says Natalia Zavorotishcheva. — Customers work in the real estate sector, and this is not our first joint project. Every time we think about the "thread" of the interior together, we consider the context: the location of the object, the architectural environment and history. We approve the direction of movement, and then my task is to find a balance between the creative part, functionality and a reasonable budget."

"The customers completely entrusted me with the choice of the stylistic direction. I've never worked in the mid-century style before, and I thought this was a great opportunity to try. Moreover, the apartment has a view of the Beijing Hotel from the windows. She has a rather difficult fate. The building began to be built back in 1939 for the Main Directorate of camps (GULAG). During the war, the construction was frozen, and in 1954 they decided to convert the high-rise into an ordinary hotel. It seemed to me that this story is in tune with the spirit of the 1950s and 60s - the era of optimism, the joy of consumption, the desire to simplify and improve people's lives."

"The interior is designed in a neutral color scheme. The walls are painted in a shade of off-white. The doors and facades of all built-in furniture are made in the same color, so that the space is "readable" as a whole. On a light background, objects made to order from anegri wood, artwork, author's ceramics and, of course, vintage stand out."

"The key element of the project, perhaps, was the Italian chandelier of the 1970s, which is located above the dining table. The case is made of chrome-plated steel, eighteen light points surround large crystals of rainbow glass in the form of chain links. It has both scale and weightlessness. Despite its compact size, the chandelier shines quite brightly. Perhaps her story is connected with some kind of public space."

"Actually, at first we were hesitant about vintage items. It seems to me that in Russia this trend did not receive such a response as in other countries, and there was definitely a risk taking into account the plans for the sale of the apartment. But the new owner liked everything. We even left a sculptural vase in the bedroom, which I planned to take to the clients' house under construction after the shooting."
