Designer Timofey Veresnovsky gave a St. Petersburg scale to an apartment with an area of 49 square meters with the help of black-and-white graphic details and marble portals

The choice of this apartment for a first-year student of the St. Petersburg State University journalism faculty did not fall by chance. Lisa is professionally engaged in yachting, and parking for yachts is provided in the courtyard of the house, and panoramic views of the Neva River open from the windows. Considering the small area, designer Timofey Veresnovsky immediately suggested shifting the focus of attention from the number of square meters to the optical illusory space.

Instead of the usual doorway, a front portal decorated with marble leads to the living room. The spectacular view of the Neva River, opening from the entrance, in such a solemn frame immediately acquires an artistic character. After all, the views of the Neva, its "avenues" were a favorite theme of the capital's painters of the XVIII–XIX centuries. The picture of the interior at first glance may seem unnecessarily contrasting and cold, but thanks to ingenious techniques and verified accents, the apartment turned out not only relevant and "wearable", but also acquired much more space and air.

The latter plays a key role in the project — there is an unusual amount of it here for such an area. All pieces of furniture are located in the lower third — no higher than the headboard and the work surface of the kitchen without upper shelves — and seem to dissolve in the aerial views outside the windows.

The spectacular view of the Neva River in a solemn frame has acquired an artistic character

The kitchen with poplar facades is made to order. Hanging cabinets were abandoned so as not to deprive a small space of air.

White armchairs of the 1970s "float" against the background of white walls and ceiling, and the black bench and coffee table lose volume and go into a two-dimensional plane, turning into a graphic drawing. The black-and-white checkered carpet is reflected in the reversible monochrome graphics of the upholstery and headboard. The imperfect geometry of textiles serves as a bridge to marble slabs, from which slopes and skirting boards are made, and contrasting silhouettes of decorative items — modernist "plump" black vases, vintage Italian satellite chandelier and even an intermittent marble pattern on the apron and shelf in the kitchen area.

The monochrome interior concept gets a soft sound due to the combination with honey-amber wood. So, the geometric headboard of the bed is softened by the "edging" of veneer, and the kitchen made of poplar root echoes the border of rare orange-yellow Giallo Siena marble in the bathroom. The marble pattern continues in other objects — a console pretending to be made of stone, and an abstract graphic poster above the chairs. Finally, a kind of paraphrase of classical architecture outside the window was the front arch of almost golden marble in the bathroom — the city on the Neva must be matched at any time of the day or night. www.veresnovsky.com
