Customers have asked me to arrange apartments for their parents, where they can stay during their visit to Moscow. The house is located in the Basmanny district and overlooks the high-rise of the Ministry of Railways and the Kazan railway station. First of all, as part of the work on the concept, I went to explore the surroundings — I wanted to let the architecture of the city into the interior.

Since the apartment is a non—residential space, we were able to move the kitchen to the place of the second bathroom, thus freeing up another room. The entrance hall is fenced off by a portal with a transom, from which you can immediately see a spacious bright living room and a large window. To the left of the entrance to the main space there is a door to the private part of the apartment with a bedroom and a bathroom, and from the living room you can get to the office.

The budget was reasonable, so I relied on architectural solutions and a meaningful color scheme. A complex system of stepped cornices and frieze create the feeling of a domed ceiling with its relatively low height, and plasterboard panels on the bedroom walls hint at the stucco of apartment buildings and strict lines of Soviet post-constructivism.

A tile pattern is also taken from the Soviet period, which is repeated in the hallway, kitchen and bathroom. I once saw such a layout in the lobby of the plant and photographed it. The photo was stored in the phone's memory for a couple of years and finally waited in the wings.
The bright shades of furniture and architectural details are inspired by the facade of the Kazan railway station. The wallpaper with a pattern of scales in the hallway is also referred to his appearance.

The most unusual item in the interior, perhaps, was the vintage chandelier "Northern Lights", which decorated the dining area. At the design stage, we chose a conditional cascading chandelier, agreeing with customers that we would look for a suitable option closer to the case. A couple of weeks of searching on Avito, and I pack fragile pendants in the seller's studio, trying not to breathe. In order for the chandelier to be positioned at the correct height above the table, we ordered a brass leg for it. Six months later, after the final cleaning, I hung up the pendants and enjoyed the finished view of the dining room. In addition, the chandelier sounds absolutely wonderful if you hold your hand over it.
