The terrace occupies 17 square meters of the total 72 in the apartment. Look at what this interior looks like.

Customers and tasks
These apartments are located in the TriBeCa Apartments complex in the center of Moscow and belong to a pair of teachers from the British Higher School of Design. They turned to designers Anna Klekovkina and Yulia Dolgoleeva from Studio DA with a request to design the apartment so that it looked bigger than it really is. We needed a spacious kitchen-living room, a separate bedroom with its own dressing room, a dining area to receive guests, and a place to store books.

Redevelopment
The original area of the apartment is 76 square meters, of which 17 were taken by the developer to the terrace. In the rest of the space, it was necessary to equip all the necessary zones for the owners. The creation of the layout simplified the fact that the apartments are non-residential space, which means that there are less strict standards than in residential apartments.
At the entrance, a dressing room was allocated for outerwear, seasonal items, as well as a bathroom. The kitchen-living room occupied a large central space. The kitchen was arranged in parallel, the dining room was decided to be organized with the help of a bar counter, and the living room area with a sofa and TV opposite it was placed by the window.

From the kitchen-living room there is an exit to the terrace. A private block of a bedroom with an adjoining dressing room was allocated in the far part of the apartment, isolated from the living room.
After the construction of all the partitions, the area decreased by 4 squares.
Finishing
Paint was chosen for the walls in all areas, excluding the bathroom. The floors in the kitchen-living room, bedroom with dressing room and terrace were decorated with an engineering board.

For the floor in the hallway and the second dressing room, we chose micro cement, a practical material that fits without joints, resistant to humidity and dirt. The view wall in the hallway with the entrance door was decorated with decorative plaster for concrete, which is combined with the texture and color of gray micro-cement.

The same plaster was used for the accent wall behind the headboard in the bedroom. In the kitchen-living room, they decided to focus on the apron. This area is lined with clinker brick, which was covered with glass for practicality.

Several types of porcelain stoneware were combined in the bathroom. On the walls under the dark gray concrete. On the floor there is a porcelain tile of the same collection, but a lighter gray shade. The shower room is decorated with black mosaic granite.

Light shades, a single floor covering in the kitchen-living room and bedroom, uniform textures and gamma of the entrance area and bathroom allowed to visually expand the space, but at the same time get rid of the monotony that similar materials could create.
Furniture and storage systems
Two walk-in closets completely closed the issue of storage space in the apartment and allowed to abandon the freestanding cabinets. For small items there is a TV stand in the living room area, and for an extensive library there are two racks installed at the ends of the terrace. There are drawers under the bed in the bedroom.

The solution with a parallel layout of the kitchen also made it possible to level the utilitarianism of this area. The main working part with a hob and sink is located in a niche. The lower cabinets are decorated with light wood, the upper white ones echo the color of the walls. The massive part with a built-in refrigerator, oven and storage spaces is located opposite, the facades of the column cabinets are completely white, which allows you to "hide" the kitchen area against the background of light walls. The bar counter is decorated with the same light wood as the lower bases of the work area. There is also a built-in wine refrigerator under the countertop.

In the bathroom, a cabinet under the sink is responsible for storage, where the washing machine is also hidden. And for various little things there are shelves-niches and overhead shelves in the shower.
Lighting
Track lamps were used for lighting, which allowed to create different scenarios of light, not only the general ceiling.

For example, one of the tracks in the kitchen descends to the wall in the bar area and performs the function of a wall lamp. In the same way, lighting is implemented in the bedroom, where the track from the ceiling is carried out on the wall already next to the bed. The bathroom has built-in waterproof lamps. In the living room area, a floor lamp was provided by the sofa and a table lamp on the bedside table opposite. On the terrace, the tracks distinguish two zones: a relaxation area and an additional dining room.

Working with space and the tasks that had to be solved when creating the layout and concept prompted us to emphasize geometry as much as possible, experiment with materials, light and color. Visual techniques not only increase the space, but also add expressiveness to the entire interior, and the natural color palette adds comfort.
