The apartment of Evgenia Chucharina, the founder of Black Wall Studio, is located in the heart of St. Petersburg and combines everything that many people love so much about the old foundation: high ceilings, large windows to the courtyard-well and a view of the roofs of the city. Initially, it was a communal apartment with a long corridor, four living rooms, a small kitchen, a combined bathroom and a second exit to the back stairs. To make it comfortable for the life of a young family, the Black Wall team first of all got rid of unnecessary partitions. "We were very lucky — there were no load-bearing walls in the apartment. We were able to completely free up space and start from scratch," the designers say.

"Entering the apartment, we find ourselves in a corridor from which you can get to the study, the nursery and a small dressing room. This is followed by a block of a shower and a bathroom combined with a laundry room. The bathroom was originally adjacent to a blind fire wall, in which we were able to make an opening. Two more windows appeared in the kitchen-living room, thanks to which the space was filled with light and air. In the process of work, we decided to replace one opening with a French balcony, from which you can now enjoy the view of the roofs of St. Petersburg."

"Evgenia's special wish was a wood-burning fireplace in the new living room. We made it on the site of the old stove, of course, it did not work, but the chimney from it, fortunately, remained. In front of the fireplace there is a large sofa, and behind it there is a kitchen. The kitchen set turned out to be U-shaped with a half-bar counter for quick breakfasts. The sink is located opposite the new window. We love this technique and try to do it when we have the opportunity."

"High double doors lead from the kitchen-living room to the bedroom — one of those that we managed to keep in this apartment. We also restored the parquet of the beginning of the XX century and the marble fireplace portal, which perfectly fit into the interior of the study. Most of the brick load-bearing walls were not finished with plaster, but simply cleaned and covered with a transparent matte varnish."

"In this project, we did not adhere to any particular stylistic direction, but, on the contrary, sought to combine several eras and styles at once. In each room you can find both modern and vintage items that Evgenia bought at European flea markets during her travels. Photographs and paintings became the final element of the interior."
