High ceilings made it possible to equip the mezzanine, where the bedroom is located. Thus, instead of the original 30 square meters, the owner received 40!
Customer and tasks
The owner of these apartments in Moscow is a young man. He loves traveling and exotic countries, plays sports, and often leaves the city for work. The customer had several wishes for the designer Ksenia Mospan: the arrangement of a common area where it would be possible to work and gather guests, a separate bedroom and a spacious closed storage.
Redevelopment
The apartment has an area of almost 30 sq. m. m were with high enough ceilings, almost 4 meters. This made it possible to design the second level and increase the area by 10 squares. On the first floor there is a bathroom, a compact kitchen-living room. On the second floor there is a bedroom. The ceiling height remained quite comfortable 2.2 meters under the mezzanine and 1.67 meters on the second level at the highest point.
Finishing
For the decoration of the walls, they mainly used a light beige shade of paint. There is parquet on the floor in residential areas. The kitchen, as well as the entrance area, are tiled so it is more practical. A juicy-colored tile was chosen for the apron.
At the head of the bed on the mezzanine, they decided to make an emphasis in the form of a fresco with a tropical pattern, a reference to the exotic mood of the interior.
Tiles and decorative plaster were combined in the bathroom. "To prevent a small and low room from turning into a stone box, we diluted the space with green color and rough texture," says the author of the project.
Furniture and storage systems
A spacious wardrobe has been built into the hallway area. The space under the stairs is also used for storage, access to this area is organized through a mirrored sliding cabinet facade. On the mezzanine, the storage system is hidden in a niche and closed with a curtain.
The compact kitchen was equipped with everything necessary. The lower bases are U-shaped, there is a built-in refrigerator, next to it a dishwasher, a small hob with two burners and a compact oven in the island part. The countertop is installed according to the type of bar behind it you can eat or work with a laptop. In the living room area there is a small folding sofa and a side table.
The bathroom has a cabinet under the sink with a built-in washing machine and storage space for related items.
"The apartments are designed for two or three people: the owner and his guests. The main scenarios of modern man's life were taken into account: a sofa movie evening with a friend, work or breakfast over the peninsula in the kitchen, sleeping on a double bed in a separate place. Furniture made of tactile pleasant materials: velour on the sofa, wool on the bed, leather on the chairs. TV table made of wood and marble. Accent tables made of brass and bedside tables are also made of metal. Everything that can be found in nature has been used," Ksenia comments.
Lighting
The general lighting in the bathroom, hallway and on the second level is solved by built-in linear lamps. In the kitchen-living room, local light scenarios: two suspensions over the kitchen bar area, sconces with swivel spots over the sofa and sconces at the stairs. The bedroom also has an additional sconce light scenario on both sides of the bed.

This is a small apartment in a modern style with ethnic details. We designed it as for ourselves: thinking about what we lack in the crazy rhythm of the capital, what inspires us to achieve and drives us forward. And the starting point was the thirst for new journeys and the pleasure of those already lived!
