Beautiful townhouse with interiors in the style of a European castle

It took three fruitful years of work for the authors of the project of this three-storey townhouse to assemble a puzzle from a huge number of carefully fitted details into a single multifaceted interior that you want to look at for a long time and intently.

Customers and tasks 

Energetic entrepreneur spouses with a schoolboy son saw their future home as a place where they could relax and slow down after an intense working and school day. For these purposes, a townhouse was purchased, located in the green Moscow district of Kurkino, characterized by a low building density. The three-storey building, erected back in 2003, was a concrete "box" with brick exterior walls, two internal load-bearing partitions and monolithic floors without stairs. For help in the development of the space, the newly minted owners turned to specialists Arina and Pavel Obolensky.

Layout

The free internal layout allowed the authors to find the best combination of areas, ergonomics and logic of the premises with an eye to the possibilities of placing the necessary engineering communications. 

The layout of the first floor is subordinated to the principle of maximally open spaces flowing into each other: kitchen, dining room and a soft zone with a wood-burning fireplace. Integrity and at the same time clear zoning turned the ceremonial volume into a center of attraction, a gathering place for family and guests. 

Adjacent to the entrance area are several auxiliary rooms (an entrance hall, a small dressing room for outerwear and a guest bathroom), there is also an entrance to the garage. 

The second, completely private floor was occupied by three autonomous bedrooms with their own wet zones: the master, children's and additional. On the third, attic floor there is a spacious dressing room with closed storage systems, a study and a guest block.

It was not easy to organize convenient logistics between different tiers of the townhouse. There was not enough space to install a staircase with platforms and divide the ascent to the second and third floors into two flights, such a staircase turned out to be unreasonably long and ate up precious square meters. Therefore, the authors turned to the design of a rounded shape with run-up steps and the most comfortable lifting height. Bent railings, glued together from lamellas of thin strips of veneer, were also made to order.

In the saved space behind the stairs, it was possible to fit the volumetric air ducts of the ventilation system. At the same time, access for maintenance of engineering communications is carried out through hatches located on the stairs, and the air ducts go directly to the living rooms, where they pass into the horizontal plane in small boxes with elegant ventilation grilles. This, in turn, made it possible to keep the ceiling height in most rooms at the level of three meters.
