Bright apartment for collectors of contemporary art

INT2 Studio has created a space that simultaneously performs the functions of an apartment and a private gallery

This spacious, bright apartment is located in the center of Moscow, not far from the Tretyakov Gallery. It has a rare feature for the Russian capital — access to a patio area of 40 square meters. This is definitely a big plus. Minus — there are only three windows on 112 square meters in the apartment, all of them are located on one side.

The customers expected to place seven functional zones in the apartment: they needed three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, an office and an extra bed on the mezzanine (despite the fact that the ceiling height is 3,250 m).

One of the main wishes was the organization of a large common space, which the apartment owners wanted to use as an exhibition space. Having collected a large collection of works of modern art, they planned to place part of it in the interior and periodically change the exposition.

The architects arranged the common space, which will function as a private gallery, along the large windows that overlook the patio. For natural lighting of bedrooms and a small mezzanine with an additional sleeping place, a reception with secondary lighting through glass partitions is used. The study is separated from the living room by a bookcase, the back wall of which is used as an exhibition stand. With the help of these solutions, it was possible to fulfill all the wishes of customers.

The main task is to preserve a spacious and bright common space, which the owners plan to use as an exhibition space

The interior is made in the aesthetics of a Scandinavian house: a neutral background (white walls, a warm wooden floor) with accents on art objects from the collection of customers and furniture.

On the top step is a painting by Ivan Gray from the series "Dreams of Space".

To ensure the correct microclimate, a forced ventilation system with humidification is installed throughout the apartment. "In the living room, we wanted to keep the height of the room to the maximum, so we thought out the layout of the ventilation system so that all the routes would be hidden behind the false ceiling in the bedrooms and bathrooms," the authors of the project say, "and the grilles for the living room should be placed in the wall above the glass partitions." The grilles in all rooms were used invisible for painting — they are painted in the color of the walls or ceiling.

The walls of the bedrooms are additionally soundproofed, double glazing with drop—down thresholds under the door is used in the partitions, interior doors are of increased thickness (60mm).
