"The customer built a house on his father's plot. At the same time, the father's house was carefully preserved, and a new building was built nearby. I really wanted to show that the old things that the owners have preserved can be used in a modern interior, giving them a new sound," says designer Lilia Asfandiyarova. — To support this theme, I decided to take the traditional English style as a basis and add national motifs to it, because the cottage is located in a Bashkir village where people still live in houses with carved shutters."

Sofa, Pohjanmaan. Carpet, Morris & Co. Pillows, Designers Guild. Table, IKEA. Above the sofa is a painting by Liana Nigmatzyanova.

"The house has two floors. The first one combined a hall, a kitchen-living room, a guest bedroom, a small bathroom, a veranda and a sauna complex. On the second floor there are master bedrooms, daughters with family, a guest room and a bathroom with a laundry unit. The house is very compact, but at the same time it has everything you need for country life. And a sauna, and a veranda with a beautiful view, and spare rooms to accommodate all the numerous guests who come every weekend to the hospitable hosts."

The kitchen is made to order by Leonardo. The carpet is the property of the owners.

"At the first meeting, the hostess immediately said that she did not want a brown wooden staircase and brown doors, as in hundreds of country houses. This was the key phrase with which the interior began, and we immediately became friends. When I suggested making the staircase red, the owner was slightly shocked, but the customer liked the idea, and she managed to persuade her husband to experiment. We picked up the greenish-tinged doors to the red staircase."

The staircase with the boiserie is made to order according to the sketches of the designer in a local workshop. Wallpaper, Boråstapeter.

"Initially, the builders laid down the standard ceiling height in the project, but during the construction something went wrong and in the end, when it came to my work, the final height was only 2.4 meters, and on the second floor in general — 2.3 meters! This was the main problem that we had to eliminate with decorative techniques. I decided to paint both the walls and the ceiling in the same color so that there would be no sharp transition. The attic sloped ceilings on the second floor are papered together with the wall, which also visually increases the height of the bedroom rooms."

"It was important for us to preserve and fit into the new interior a lot of things from the old house. For example, there is a bench on the veranda, which is almost 100 years old, the sideboard for dishes is about the same. A trunk was placed in the master bedroom, in which the grandmother of the owner of the house kept her outfits. In all the rooms we tried to place at least one piece of furniture from the old house, preserving the link of generations. All the furniture was carefully restored, decorated and modified to meet modern needs by the best Ufa restorer Alexander Zhelnin. I really like the cabinet-box in the master bedroom: it was an ordinary wooden cabinet of the 30s, we decorated it with paintings and fabrics so that it turned out to be an art object. The bedside table in the bathroom was made locally according to my sketches, and the decorator transferred the fancy fish from the wallpaper drawing. After all, only by preserving traditions, you can create something new!".
