The owners of the apartment live in Moscow, are engaged in scientific activities in the field of medicine, are fond of music and sports. The customer had several wishes. First, she immediately asked to pick up paintings in the living room — "something cheerful." Secondly, she needed to put a piano somewhere, which her grandparents planned to give to her daughter. And, finally, it was necessary to place their extensive library, part of which they inherited from their husband's parents, also prominent medical scientists.

To begin with, she and I leafed through interior magazines and walked through interior salons. It immediately became clear that she liked bright accents, as well as quite active graphic prints. It is thanks to them that the interior received stylistic references to art Deco. In addition, we have supplemented the space with objects reminiscent of vintage (floor lamp, armchair, table lamp in the nursery, ceramics) — they add to the space the feeling of an apartment with a history.

Global redevelopment was impossible due to the presence of massive monolithic pylons and ventshachts, but it was not required here, since the location and area of the premises of the owners were generally satisfied. We only added storage areas, allocated a separate laundry room, raised the height of the doorways for greater solemnity of the premises and adjusted the L-shaped shape of the window openings of both bedrooms for the same purpose. They did not attach the kitchen to the living room, this would break the correct shape of the premises and reduce the status of the living room: a view of the stove and sink in a similar style, in my opinion, is unacceptable.

Our first purchase for this interior was a painting by Armenian artist Ani Hayrapetyan. We saw one of her works in the interior gloss, found the author and purchased the canvas we liked. It became the starting point in the design of the living room. In unison, Kandinsky's graphics came up to her by itself — a gift to her husband — she found a place above the piano. Open shelving in the living room was provided for the library.

Given the small size of the kitchen-dining room, it was designed as an unobtrusive and slightly calmer continuation of the living room. The space is partially visible through the openwork canvases of the doors, so we continued the background colors of the living room here, abandoning active colors. A small hint of graphics was supported by a figured mosaic on the apron.

The color scheme of the bedroom is quite unusual. In the project we had planned a much quieter version of textiles, but we liked this slightly African print so much that we decided to take a chance and moved away from the original color scheme. The active ornament required a different, bolder and even slightly extravagant approach. The colors of the headboard itself became a hint in the choice of curtains and decorative design of the bed.

The daughter of the customers chose a soft pastel palette for the nursery — perhaps it was influenced by her passion for ballet (she even has even a small collection of delicate porcelain ballerinas). But for greater integrity of the interior, we used graphic prints in the design and here — the same active pattern on the curtains as in the parents' bedroom, though in a different, delicate shade.

Posters with Picasso drawings were purchased in the nursery.

Curiously, the curtains in the nursery are from the same collection as in the living room. But in delicate colors they look completely different.

We also had to improvise in the design of the guest bathroom. The mosaic for the floor, which we chose and ordered in advance, did not arrive at the end of the repair due to the difficulties of customs legislation. I had to urgently choose an alternative from the availability and change the color scheme of the design. Deep blue-green accents were replaced by a pale blue shade, no less perfectly in harmony with the color of natural brass in the decor and faucets.
