This project is like a puzzle: the customer asked to make the apartment intended for rent more interesting and memorable. But at the same time keep the old layout and even furniture. Surprisingly, the architect Pyotr Grigorash did it all

GENERAL PARAMETERSProperty type: apartment for rent
Where is located: central district of Moscow
Square footage: 60 sq.m.
Style: Bright Scandi
The main idea of the project: a memorable interior for a small budget
Color scheme: light interior with gradient accents
The author of the project: architect Peter Grigorash, www.petrgrigorash.art , grigorash.petr@gmail.com
The apartment is located in a brick house built in the 1990s, has thick load-bearing walls that visually reduce and weigh down the space. Ten years ago, the renovation was done, the kitchen was moved to the hall to get two separate rooms, and the balcony was attached to the bedroom. Almost all the furniture, including the kitchen, as well as the flooring remained from that time, and the architect Peter Grigorash had a difficult task to fit all this heritage into the new interior.

The customer wanted to update the interior with minimal costs, which means with maximum preservation of everything that is in good condition, but at the same time use some decorative techniques to make the apartment memorable.

A significant effect was achieved by simply rearranging the furniture

To visually highlight the reading corner in the living room, the architect used the technique of gradient painting of the walls. It was performed by the studio Roomroom.

The first thing the designer did was rearrange the furniture. He moved the sofa and TV rack in the living room closer to the entrance — this made it possible to put a full-fledged dining table by the window. And to add volume to the rooms, I replaced all the low-hanging chandeliers with ceiling lights.

The kitchen furniture had to be completely abandoned, as its replacement would have led to significant expenses, but one element was added. A custom-made breakfast bar table took the place of a free-standing tall refrigerator. A small built-in refrigerator and storage systems are hidden under its countertop. Thus, it was possible to solve not only a functional problem, but also to create an interesting sculptural object that is visible from many points of the apartment.

In the bedroom, too, it was possible to achieve a noticeable effect with the help of furniture rearrangement alone. Previously, both the bed and the wardrobe were located along the room, which turned an already elongated room into a narrow and uncomfortable space without the possibility of approaching the bed from both sides. Unfolding the bed and wardrobe, the designer adjusted the proportions of the room.

The quality of the repairs carried out ten years ago left much to be desired, so even minimal changes in the situation caused difficulties. For example, at the time of rearranging the closet in the bedroom, it turned out that the ceiling is so curved that the closet does not fit in height in a new place. I had to urgently negotiate with a carpentry company about its pruning.

The designer had to focus on the decor in this project. "Photographer and decorator Maria Voynova helped a lot in this," says Pyotr Grigorash. — She offered a trellis hanging of paintings over the sofa and a carpet over the bed in the bedroom, and also with great attention selected textiles and all small decorative items that noticeably enlivened the interior."

But the main focus was active gradient painting, terracotta in the living room and rich green in the bedroom. It was she who influenced the perception of the apartment as bright, unusual and even artistic. Color can work wonders if you didn't believe in it — here's a good example.
