This interior is the result of a compromise between the wishes of customers and the technical capabilities of an apartment in an old house. The architects from the Arcus Design bureau gave her the name "Dove of the World" and are ready to tell how this dove spread its wings

The staircase is made of a thick sheet of metal according to the sketches of the author of the project. The sculpture "Hide and Seek" by Olga Orsik.

The peculiarity of this apartment is that it is two-level with a second attic floor. During the design process, we faced two difficulties that dictated certain planning decisions:
-
rigid structural framework for the placement of stairs;
-
attic low ceilings of the second floor.
After careful development of the project, we managed to turn these difficulties into advantages. For example, the staircase located in the center of the kitchen-living room eventually became the center of navigation and a light sculptural partition separating the kitchen area from the living room area, while maintaining the feeling of one large space with a series of windows along the wall and creating an allusion to the suite.

Before the purchase, the customers — mom, dad, son and daughter — lived for many years in an apartment decorated in the neoclassical style, which they have grown very fond of over the years. In fact, we were asked to repeat the same style in a new home, adding a few elements in the form of moldings. There was a clear taboo on modern elements, minimalism and bright spots. But after visiting the facility, unfortunately or fortunately, we immediately refused to fulfill this wish, since on the ground floor we found five large square windows that dictated their conditions.

It immediately became clear to us that with such data, there can be no question of any moldings, or any neoclassical with purely classical and antique furniture. On the other hand, we could not completely ignore the preferences of the future tenants of the apartment, since it is very important for us that our customer feels "at home" after moving, and does not live in a beautiful but alien interior.
After much deliberation, disputes and battles, we came to a compromise by combining neoclassical elements with furniture, which indirectly carries the mid-century gene code, and with modern art. The result satisfied absolutely all participants of the project. Dining area.

The most difficult technical element of the whole project, of course, is the staircase. It was she who became our "blue of the world", who helped to reconcile all the disputants and put all the puzzles together. We tried to give the most sculptural look to the structure itself, and the work of sculptor Anish Kapoor helped us in this and the "Dove" by Pablo Picasso. As a result, we got a modern sculptural interpretation of a soaring white dove in the center of the living room.

Kitchen-dining room. Kitchen furniture is made in the carpentry workshop Tutto Design according to the sketches of the author of the project. Another unusual element that is definitely worth noting is the dining table, which we designed specifically for this project. The design of the table is inspired by the work of the genius Carlo Scarpa and the logo of our design bureau.

In the bedroom, despite the massive bed with a rounded headboard, made according to our sketches, and a bright large chandelier, attention is drawn to the wardrobe wall, hand-painted by the talented artist Sergey Karev. The plant theme was discussed from the very beginning, as I wanted to dilute the rigor of the entire bedroom with smooth plant lines and introduce a piece of nature into the center of Moscow, as well as realize the love of customers for the botanical theme in the interiors.

Custom-made cabinet furniture plays a key role in the boy's room. The room has an elongated shape with a very sharp slope of the attic ceiling, so that along one wall the ceiling height was below 1.6 m. But due to the wardrobe with an unusually large depth, we managed to balance the space.

The wardrobe, on the one hand, divided the room into two sections harmonious in size, one of which carries the function of a bedroom, and the other — a working one, and on the other, gave functionality to a part of the room with low ceilings. Bookshelves appeared on the side of the bed at the end of the wardrobe, and behind the hangers there is a large space for storing toys. The carpentry part along the wall with the window hid a lot of communication pipes of an apartment building.

The girl's bedroom, also located on the second attic floor, had the same problems as the boy's nursery, so we used the same solutions: we designed a non-standard deep wardrobe along the entire wall with the highest ceiling possible. With this technique, we managed to neutralize the contrast of ceiling heights, and due to the hand-painted facades by the artist Sergey Karev, the massive cabinet design looks unusually light and gentle.

The most striking decorative technique, one can even say planning — was the idea of using aged mirror canvases as a wall decoration of the guest bathroom. This decision was dictated by its catastrophically small size. With the help of mirrors, we visually doubled the space. And the choice of the antique version of the mirror canvas instead of the usual one allowed us to avoid vulgarity in the implementation of this bold and ambiguous idea.
