Designer Rick Owens does not let himself relax: the cold harsh space of the house in Venice encourages him to be more demanding of his creativity and not to be distracted from work

Venice has always attracted the grandiose decadents of its era: from Lord Byron to Paul Verlaine. One of the most controversial designers of our time, Rick Owens, also found a secluded haven in the city.

"I wanted to get a harsh cold space devoid of any sentimentality," says Owens. "I think that living in the chaos of things with which there is an emotional connection makes a person softer. And I can't afford it!"

To the disappointment of Owens' wife Lamy, the designer did not spare the turquoise tile floor of the 1970s and instead filled the space with travertine and marble. Italian busts of Mussolini also did not add points to the room. The interior is decorated in a calm color palette using natural shades. Despite the apparent simplicity, every detail is carefully thought out in the house. The created space forces Owens to treat his work more critically and demanding.

At 56, Owens is in his best physical shape. He says he associates himself with the modulor Le Corbusier — a system of universal proportions. It is the great French architect and interior designer Jean-Michel Frank who inspires Rick the most.
