A standard one-bedroom apartment in a new building turned out to be almost a two-bedroom apartment with a bedroom, a small living room, a comfortable kitchen and a spacious bathroom.

Customers and tasks
The owners of this apartment in a new building in St. Petersburg are a mature married couple who raised children and wanted to design a new interior for themselves. To do this, the family turned to designer Polina Andreeva. It was necessary to think over a comfortable interior "for many years", as the author of the project formulates the task. An important aspect was the storage systems made for the needs and number of things of the owners, as well as the visual increase in space.

Redevelopment
Initially, the developer proposed a standard layout of a studio apartment: a separate room, a kitchen, separate bathroom and toilet, an entrance hall, a balcony of 6 sq. m (the area is indicated without it). The designer proposed to make a new layout to accommodate more zones and improve the ergonomics of the space.
So, they removed part of the partition that separated the room from the kitchen and hallway. On the area of the room, a bedroom was allocated by the window, separated by a sliding glass partition. The remaining area was occupied by the living room.

The bathroom and toilet were combined and expanded due to the corridor, which made it possible to conveniently and ergonomically place everything you need there: a shower, a toilet, a washing machine with a storage system.
We also worked with the hallway. Previously, it was a transit zone that had to be crossed to get from the kitchen to the room. The designer reduced the area of the hallway, separating it from the living room with a partition and allocated the so-called "dirty" zone. Now you can get into the living room and bathroom from the kitchen without crossing the entrance area.

Finishing
Practical and natural materials were chosen for finishing: paint for walls, porcelain stoneware for wet areas on the floor, engineering board in the bedroom and living room. The wall behind the headboard was covered with wallpaper, which gave comfort to this area. Decorative plaster was used in the dining area. Several types of porcelain stoneware and tiles were combined in the bathroom.

Furniture and storage systems
Cabinet furniture was made to order according to the designer's sketches. The design took into account the needs of customers, and a lot of storage systems turned out to be designed on a small area. So, in the bedroom there is a high wardrobe for everyday things, the end is decorated with a mirror, which helps to visually increase the space.

There are two bedside tables: a standard bedside table for a spouse and a console for a spouse, the second can serve as a dressing table. In the living room area, a TV stand was provided.
There are two closets in the hallway. One of them is built-in, it is a wardrobe-dressing room. The second one is free-standing for outerwear, with a compartment for sitting. We also installed a console for small things.

The kitchen has a linear set with all the necessary built-in appliances and upper cabinets to the ceiling, which increases the storage volume. At the window, they made a narrow showcase with lighting for beautiful dishes.

"The corrugated bronze glass was not chosen by chance. The owners of the apartment ordered a sliding door to the balcony in a brown frame. We needed to "make friends" with her with the interior of the rest of the apartment. Therefore, we picked up just such a glass on the cabinet and installed a countertop made of gray-brown quartz," Polina comments.

In the shower, in addition to the cabinet under the sink, there is a closet above the washing machine for storing various household items.

Lighting
The general light of the living room-bedroom is solved by overhead spot spots, which give bright uniform illumination. In the kitchen, the ceiling light was made with the help of built-in plaster lamps, almost invisible. The designer designed the local scenarios in different ways: suspensions on the sides of the bed in the bedroom, sconces over the sofa in the living room, a spectacular suspension over the dining table, which is noticeable even from the hallway. Of course, there are also lights: shelves, shower and bathroom mirrors, kitchen work surfaces.

Polina Andreeva Designer, author of the project
Since the area of the apartment is small, all color solutions intersect in each room. The basis was a gray-blue tile with a purple undertone in the bathroom. The color of the sofa upholstery, bed linen, textiles on the windows are similar in tone to the tiles. The warm caramel shade in the wallpaper behind the headboard echoes the facade of the wardrobe, the console near the bed, fur pillows and gold elements in the decoration of the lamps.
