What to use as a planting material
Growing greens at home is becoming increasingly popular. Indeed, why not take advantage of the opportunity to have a fresh harvest all year round, and even right in the kitchen? And green onions are a great addition to various dishes, so planting it right on your windowsill is a great idea. Let's consider what can be used for disembarkation.

Growing onions on the windowsill from bulbs
The main attention will be paid to this method of planting, as it is the simplest and most effective. You can also plant the bulb in different ways.
In the water
When preparing the material for planting, remove the top layer of husk, pierce the root cup (lower part) and, if the bulb is not sprouted, cut off the top so that future feathers can break through.
You will need a jar or glass of a small diameter such that the turnip sits tightly in the container, but does not dip into it completely. Disposable cups or containers from under dairy products, as well as glass jars from under baby purees, are suitable. Pour water into a vessel for forcing feathers, it is better to use filtered or boiled, and place the landing on top, immersing only the lower part in the liquid.
When the head gives white roots, you can reduce the amount of water, leaving only them to get wet. This little trick will help to avoid an unpleasant smell.
Then you just need to wait and change the water to fresh every few days. When the green arrows begin to break through, do not rush to harvest immediately, wait for their growth to 15 cm and only then cut off fresh feathers.

In the ground
This method is a little more complicated due to working with soil, but in general, it is more effective the bulb will "stand" longer and will give more feathers. And there will definitely be no unpleasant smell from the soaking plant.
Buy universal soil in the store or dig up the right amount from the land plot. To make the soil a little looser, add one fifth of vermiculite. For seating, choose special containers and cups for plants or use improvised containers of this type.
For this type of germination, it is better to use laid-down, sprouted bulbs. Remove the outer husk and immerse the material in water for at least 2 hours. Pre-soaking will speed up the process of forcing feathers.
Depending on the size of the container and the size of the planting material, fill the earth into a container 4-7 cm from the bottom. Then plant the heads in the ground. If you use a "single" container, then one piece in it. If you have purchased long containers for planting, then make the distance between the bulbs about 2 cm. Just as in the case of water, let only the root cups come into contact with the soil in order to avoid rotting.
After planting, slightly moisten the soil without touching the turnips. In the future, water the bed on the windowsill every few days, preventing overflow.

In a bottle
In fact, this is also a landing in the ground, but in a somewhat unusual design in a five-liter bottle with homemade holes. The soil needs the same, the preparation of the material is also unchanged. Now let's figure out how to plant onions on greens on the windowsill with a bottle.

In sawdust
It is also possible to expel green feathers by planting the heads in sawdust. Almost any wood shavings, except coniferous, will do.

In a hydroponic installation
Such an installation is the most "painless" process of growing green onions. You will only need to prepare the bulbs according to the rules already described above and purchase a hydroponic system in a specialized store.
In the upper part there are cells, and in them you need to place the bulbs. The bottom part is a water tray. After the material has shrunk into the compartments, connect the unit to an outlet so that the liquid is saturated with oxygen.

How to plant a young process
In this section, we will study how to plant onions in the ground on the windowsill, if the planting material is only young shoots.
In the water
To drive the feathers out of the white part of the green onion, you will need higher cups so that when they appear, the whole structure does not fall. Pour boiled or filtered water inside and place the young plant inside. The liquid should reach half of the process or slightly higher. When the water evaporates, add it so that the level does not change, and about once every 5 days completely update it.

In the ground
The algorithm is very simple, and the initial data is the same as in the case of whole planting material. Universal soil (optionally with vermiculite), a single or oblong container, only a slight deepening of the processes into the ground. About 80-85% should remain on the surface. Water the planting moderately when you notice the drying of the soil.

How to plant a fragment of an onion
We will also briefly consider this method, although it is not as effective as the previous ones. Recall that the lower part of a good, not spoiled bulb, about a centimeter high, is used for planting. Before transferring to the ground, dry the material for 5 hours.
Pour the soil into a suitable container (the same universal with the possible addition of vermiculite for loosening), lay the onion particles with the roots down, and sprinkle the soil on top for 1-2 cm. When planting several specimens in one container, keep a distance of 2-3 cm between them. As the top layer of the soil dries, gradually moisten it.

Lighting
A garden plant is planted on the windowsill for a reason, it needs a lot of light. But it would be a mistake to place a container with it near the window immediately after landing. First, let the planting "rest" in a slightly shaded place and only after 5-7 days expose it to bright daylight. Growing onions on the windowsill in winter has its own peculiarities. The days are short, there is little light. Then you will need additional lighting with the help of special lamps for plants. You can use them for all 24 hours.
Temperature and humidity
Like many plants, onions like a moderate temperature around 20 degrees. Due to the barely noticeable intake of cold air through the micro-cracks in the windows on the windowsill, it is not difficult to ensure such a temperature regime. However, make sure that the battery and direct sun do not warm the landing too much. At 30 degrees and above, the greens will not break through at all or die. By the way, with an increase in temperature (up to 23-24), green feathers will shoot a little earlier and will grow faster.
Watering mode
As mentioned above, watering onions planted in the ground should be done every few days in 3-5 depending on the dryness of the air in the room. Focus on the condition of the topsoil: if it is obviously dry after a couple of days, feel free to moisturize it. In water plantings, do not forget to regularly update the liquid.
Fertilizer
Unlike most domestic plants and even more exotic specimens, green onions do not need to be fed. It is possible to slightly accelerate the appearance of the crop and improve its quality only with the help of a complex fertilizer with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in equal proportions in the composition. As always, it is necessary to strictly follow the instructions and dosages on the package.
