The owners of this apartment were against the Scandinavian style and for the preservation of visual space. What happened in the end?

Customers and tasks
This apartment belongs to a couple of businesswomen and a scientist. To designer Valentina Dukmas, they had the main request to save as much free space as possible. The owners were not satisfied with the corridor, which had to be used somehow. The hostess often works at home, and she needed an office, there was also a request to create a dressing room. And they also didn't like the Scandinavian style, so they decided not to use its features.

Redevelopment
According to the original plan, it was a three-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms and a long corridor that connected the rooms. To make the space more comfortable, more ergonomic and to embody the wishes of the owners, the author of the project proposed a redevelopment.

As a result, the kitchen and living room were combined, adding the corridor space to the total area. In one of the rooms adjacent to the living room, an office and a dressing room were organized, which is separated from the office by a sliding glass partition. The entrance to this area was moved to the living room.
One of the bathrooms was enlarged due to the area of the corridor, it became a buffer zone between the common space and the private bedroom. In addition, it so happened to organize a full-fledged master block. The second bathroom is slightly increased due to the area of the first one, it was necessary to organize the laundry area.
Finishing
During the repair, all curtain walls were removed in order to rebuild them and design a clear geometry of the walls. They also "opened" the concrete ceiling, which they decided not to sew up in the living room only partially in order to hide communications. In this area, the walls were decorated with decorative plaster for concrete, supplemented with decorative bricks in the kitchen area and partially with paint. "By combining textures vertically and horizontally, we visually increased the height of the room," the designer comments.

Also in the living room there is a section of the wall lined with glass blocks, this wall borders the dressing room. Glass blocks also perform a decorative function when the light is turned on in the dressing room, in the living room it looks like a kind of wall "panel". In the rooms and corridor, the walls and ceiling are painted. A partial decoration with decorative bricks was also chosen for the bedroom in order to combine this area with the living room in meaning.

As for the floor decoration, in the kitchen and hallway area, porcelain stoneware was used for concrete, in the living rooms — ?

Bathrooms are decorated with different materials. In the one where the laundry decorative plaster for concrete on the walls and porcelain stoneware on the floor is organized. In the master bathroom, there is paint in the entrance area, tiles next to the sink and porcelain stoneware under the tree in the shower. There is also porcelain stoneware on the floor.

Storage systems
The main storage is located in the dressing room, which is adjacent to the office, the wish of the hostess of the house is fulfilled.

The bedroom has a three-fold wardrobe for everyday things. Storage is provided both in the office (hanging cabinets above the desk) and in the bathrooms (a cabinet under the sink in the shower and a hanging cabinet with a mirror in the guest bathroom), as well as in the hallway a built-in wardrobe and console opposite it.
Household storage is implemented in the laundry room in the bathroom.

In the living room, storage is minimal. The space was freed from unnecessary elements, there is a TV stand for small things. The kitchen set is linear with a number of upper cabinets and built-in column cabinets, where the necessary appliances are hidden.
Lighting
The designer designed different lighting scenarios from general bright to zonal and backlights. The role of the general is played by ceiling overhead spots of contrasting color. Suspensions are placed above the dining table, sconces are provided by the bed in the bedroom. In the bathrooms and the study, in addition to the bright main light, soft lights are implemented.

Designer Valentina Dukmas, author of the project:
The main task in the design was to keep the space visually clean and light, but with contrasting textures. Customers also have their favorite retro items, such as a vinyl record player, a tube amplifier and Japanese engravings that needed to be fitted into the interior. And so a mix of Japanese minimalism and loft was born. I combined a warm, rich-colored brick and wood with a neutral ceramic granite of a cold gray shade. I highlighted the windows with a tree around the perimeter. The combination of gray and white background of the walls made it possible to place accents on furniture or, if necessary, dissolve it in space. For example, the sofa in the living room of a warm shade has disappeared against the background of a wooden kitchen. In the bedroom, the end of the wardrobe at the entrance and the headboard of the bed emphasize the brickwork.
