In a small apartment of 42 sq. m. the designer managed to create an authentic atmosphere of a tropical villa, so that when coming to the nearest Moscow region for a weekend, he could feel himself on another continent, where you can not rush anywhere, enjoy simple things and devote time only to the closest people.

The apartment in the monolithic house of the Aquareli residential complex belongs to the family of the author of the project. We bought it to come on weekends and communicate with parents living nearby. The residential complex is located just 8 km from the Moscow Ring Road, near the center of Balashikha, Moscow region.
The owners wanted to place a separate bedroom, a spacious bathroom with a bathtub and a combined kitchen-dining-living room space on a small area.

Redevelopment
The standard square geometry of the apartment, two huge windows facing southwest, were suitable for the most open layout. To the left of the small entrance hall, a spacious bathroom was equipped, to the right a dressing room. A bedroom was fenced off near one of the windows.

In the narrow part of the remaining L-shaped zone, a kitchen work area was equipped, without upper cabinets: so it seems more spacious. The partition and swing doors made of wood and glass divide the space functionally, but retain its integrity. Thanks to them, the kitchen area removed from the windows is evenly flooded with natural light all day.

A wide part was left for the dining group and the actual living room. The openings between the hallway, kitchen and living room were left open, and huge windows are visible immediately from the front door.
Proper zoning and successful placement of furniture create a spacious and cozy area for dining and socializing. The sofa offers a beautiful view of the Fox Mountain, the river, the forest, and sitting in vintage armchairs, you can admire the sunset.

Repair
The apartment required a thorough renovation. All the previous curtain walls were demolished and the old coverings were removed. The new walls were built of pazogrebnevyh slabs. Their surface was leveled with plaster and putty. The errors of the floor were leveled with a self-leveling mixture. In this apartment, the larch ceiling is the pride of the author of the project, who personally processed the boards, starting with brushing and painting using special techniques and ending with grinding and applying protective varnish. As a result, an interesting ceiling covering with a unique wood pattern on each board turned out. You can admire such a ceiling indefinitely.

Wooden boards are reliable, practical and capable of maintaining an attractive appearance for a long time. Plus, you can hide additional sound insulation and communications under them, and lamps and acoustic systems can be built into them. First, a frame made of wooden slats (or metal profiles) is mounted on the ceiling. Wooden cladding elements are attached to them. This design hides even significant irregularities and defects of the base surface (upper overlap).
A three-layer parquet board with a working layer of oak was laid in the bedroom and living room. It is distinguished by high dimensional stability and resistance to mechanical stress. The top layer of the selection is "naturel" with a large number of knots. Lamellas vary greatly in color and look as impressive as possible.

On the floor in the hallway, bathroom, as well as on part of the walls there is micro-concrete, a seamless wear-resistant coating with an interesting texture. The area near the free-standing bathtub made of cast marble was lined with classic ceramic tiles.
Open kitchen storage systems are built of concrete blocks according to the designer's project and, together with the apron, are also covered with micro-concrete.

Design
The color palette chosen for the interior is very light and airy, it's nice to be here at any time of the day. Warm white, gray, shades of natural wood seem to remind of an area where it is warm and sunny all year round.

The combination of lively textures and wood species differing in color (larch on the ceiling and oak parquet on the floor) helps to emphasize the expressiveness of details, create a sense of tactile comfort and natural warmth.

A bathroom with "concrete" walls and floor might look too brutal, but an oak console under the washbasin, a wooden door, skillfully selected decor and lighting create a feeling of warmth and comfort. Vintage objects, diverse decor, and modern furniture look organically against the background of white walls.

The finishing touch is the author's painting. Paintings without frames, painted by Olesya Mazna (in the living room and bedroom), as well as canvases with hand embroidery by Anna Kholosha (in the kitchen) actively interact with the environment.

Designer Katerina Karavaeva, author of the project
At the first inspection of the apartment, I almost had an attack of claustrophobia. The space with the partitions already erected was planned so illiterate that in places it gave the impression of a dark narrow basement. At the same time, I note that we were on the 15th floor in rooms flooded with sunlight through panoramic windows. Therefore, it was decided to dismantle all partitions and complete redevelopment. It was necessary to let air and light into the apartment, add functionality. I don't like cabinets and junk, I like space and conciseness. I am close to the Japanese philosophy of minimalism Vabi Sabi and the philosophy of a leisurely life Slow Living. The principles of both trends are implemented in the interior, and the role of a pleasant addition is played by vintage items.
