Architect Dasha Kossa tells how she managed to turn a two-room apartment into a three-room apartment and let the free French spirit into it

The bedroom is made on the principle of a room-box: deep saturated shades, envelop and immerse in bliss. The mirrored wall visually expands the space. The bed is made to order according to the sketches of the designer, Unterzo. Bed linen, Atelier Tati. Decorative pillows, Marilux Studio. Carpet, IKEA. On the wall there are two paintings by Svetlana Bogdanova, a ceramic panel by Yana Kopylova and a photo work by Ali Kishek.

GENERAL PARAMETERSProperty type: apartment in a house built in 1996
Where it is located: Moscow, Mitino, all Windows overlook Mitinsky Park
Square footage: 58 m2 (52 m2 without loggias)
Style: the eclectic spirit of Paris — a lot of ethnic motifs from Africa and the Maghreb, vintage and artisan details, art and all this combined with modern finishes and furniture
The main idea of the project is to create a comfortable home that reflects the life of its owners and is capable of adaptation and constant transformation over time
Color scheme: the entrance common area of the hallway, living room and hall is a neutral black and white background, and further into the depth of the apartment, each room has its own character and color — from sandy through nude and cinnamon color to deep grape and blueberry shades, but still a certain black and white graphicity continues in each room.

The wishes of the customers were mainly related to the planning solution, since it was necessary to plan the life of three people on a small area: a married couple with a girl, a future schoolgirl. The minimum number of open surfaces, ease in cleaning and maintaining order — that's what her parents wanted. And from the materials they preferred everything natural, as far as possible — practical.

"There is a window behind the headboard, which is my signature technique, I believe that the changeable landscape outside the window serves as a wonderful background and is a very functional solution," explains the architect. In addition to two isolated bedrooms, I was given the task to allocate a full-fledged living room, if possible, make two bathrooms and fill the premises with storage systems as much as possible. I corrected the geometry of the kitchen by embedding a refrigerator between the duct and the wall and beating the box with a shallow storage cabinet, as well as moved and decorated the passage.
In addition, I expanded the balcony blocks by decorating them with French windows, thereby increasing the amount of daylight in each room, while maximizing the view of the park. The storage system is conveniently located on the loggia at the kitchen, the second loggia has become a convenient play area in the nursery, and in the warm season right in the fresh air.

To organize a full-fledged living room, we had to move the passage to the bedroom closer to the entrance to the kitchen. And to create natural lighting in the living room, I made a transom at the top of the wall for the width of the entire room. It has become an additional "highlight" of the room, as on a sunny day it gives beautiful reflexes through the glass from the colored bedroom to the light walls of the living room.

Living room, fragment. To make a small room brighter, an interior window is made in the upper part of the wall. Above the sofa is a composition of a handmade mirror by ceramist Olga Garikova, a vintage African mask and a handmade decorative plate brought from Portugal. Vase on a pedestal, Levadnaja ceramics. Pedestal, Repeat Story.

When working on the layout, I used my favorite enfilade technique: the entrance to the nursery, the passage to the hall and the entrance to the bathroom are located on one axis. I emphasized this and reinforced it with the design of the openings, using a desudeport over each door and portal, which again allowed me to play with the scale and align the proportions in height where it was structurally impossible to do.

In the living room, the main dominant is a candle fireplace, it is made of plaster, hand-painted and decorated with handmade tiles inside. The fireplace is flanked by vintage sconces from Vico Magistretti, which we brought from Italy to order. The precise use of vintage objects in combination with the classics of world object design and art allowed us to create an actual and timeless interior.

To visually raise the ceilings, I used wide stucco molding on the cornices around the perimeter, as well as painting — an easy-to-implement, but very effective technique. For example, the ceiling of the living room is painted in a light gray shade with a slight glossy sheen, which noticeably increases the volume of space both in height and depth.

In the kitchen, we are greeted by the author's ceramic panel above the table, brought from Bulgaria, and on the opposite wall there is a ceramic tile on an apron. Most of the ceramics and dishes in this interior were selected by me personally. Well, the Soviet chandelier "Dandelion" over the dining table was bought even when there was no project from factory232, which I found by chance on Avito a few years ago.

For painting on the wall in the nursery, I first made a detailed sketch myself. It was important that it was graphics, and not ready-made wallpaper according to my sketches, but something more delicate. The artists with whom I usually work on similar tasks still could not get to this object for various reasons. Tired of waiting, I decided to do it on my own, since I have a full-fledged art education behind me. So in the end, the painting in the nursery is my author's handwriting (in the literal sense of the word).

With the help of many mirrored objects and even walls and their thoughtful arrangement, I managed to visually increase the area of all rooms and hide storage systems without losing anything in square meters.

In the bathroom, the main task was to arrange a free-standing bathtub. A model of an elegant, laconic form made of artificial stone was chosen for the project. Everything else was supposed to be a neutral, but high-quality background for her, so I used a monochrome white mosaic on the floor, and on the walls granite marble, laid out in the bath area in panels, combined with contrasting details of natural marble and wood.

Textiles in the bathroom area should soften the interior and give it a bit of a boudoir mood, I really like this technique in bathrooms and often use it in my projects.
