Signum Architecture architects have built a wine complex for the owners of the estate in Saint-Tropez, inspired by local architecture, nature and, of course, wine

The owners of the Fondugues Pradugues estate decided that it was time to build a modern winery on their territory — fortunately, here, near the village of Ramatuelle on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, they have been growing grapes for several generations. The plain, protected from all sides by picturesque hills, is generally famous for its organic and biodynamic wines. To decide who to entrust the construction to, the owners went on a trip through the Napa Valley, and their attention was attracted by the CADE Estate winery — they turned to its architects, the Signum Architecture bureau.

"In order to preserve the visual integrity of the site, we have placed a new winery among tall pines, next to the existing house. The journey to it from the entrance gate leads along a road raised above the clearing, around there are playgrounds for playing petanque and picnic tables with wine, which is immediately poured from a Peugeot van turned into a bar," the architects say.

"We decided that the appearance of the winery should be organic to this region, Southern France, so we built three long buildings — simple, with the right proportions and symmetrical arrangement of openings, they form a courtyard. Public and private tasting rooms occupied the first building, built parallel to the grape rows. In the second, perpendicular to the first, there is a fermentation room and administrative offices, and in the third there are toilets and warehouses for equipment," they say in Signum Architecture.

The choice of materials is also dictated by local architectural traditions. The tree resembles the surrounding pine trees, and tiled roofs are an essential attribute of houses in the south of France.
