The Milan house of Nelsia and Fabrizio Cantoni is as bright and charismatic as its owners, the founders of the cc—tapis design brand

Nelcia and Fabrizio Cantoni (Nelcya and Fabrizio Cantoni love outrageous design and complex color palettes. This distinguishes their house from most of the strict Milanese interiors. "We are not Milanese ourselves," the hostess remarks, including a vinyl record from her collection. For us, she chose an old disco compilation, which was played in one of the hotels owned by Fabrizio's parents. His mother is English, his father is Italian.

Nelsia is half French, half Iranian, with the ancient surname Shamzadeh. They met while studying at the Ecole Hôtelière school in Switzerland, after which Fabrizio planned to continue the family business. For a while he even worked in a hotel in Portofino, and at the age of forty he entered the university at the Faculty of design. At first they sold Persian carpets in Strasbourg together with the Shamzadeh family.

And in 2001, they changed their lives abruptly: they opened cc-tapis, which today is one of the leading designer brands for the production of carpets. Fabrizio and Nelcia reflected their own recognizable style in the design of this three-storey house. They both feel the spirit of the times well, they are able to create an eclectic combination of things, balancing on the edge of high design and kitsch.

The walls of the dining room are covered with the famous wallpaper with banana leaves, which Don Loper invented in 1942 for the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles. To emphasize the theme of hotels, which meant a lot in the life of the owners, instead of the traditional dining table, they put three small ones.

"It's better to book tables in advance!" the hosts laugh. Nelsia is a master of arranging themed receptions, whether it's a "Pink lunch", in which everything from drinks to bread is pink, or a specially served "Breakfast for owls".

There are almost no empty surfaces in the house. The walls and shelves are inhabited by unusual characters like pink Snow White with a grenade and porcelain pigeons huddled under the eaves.
