Minimalistic concept store with its own garden

A new SPMA concept store has opened in Shanghai, with Atelier tao+c studio working on an unusual interior

A new Self Pride concept store, Massive Attack (SPMA), has opened in Shanghai. Its founder is designer Masha Ma (Masha Ma) — I decided to unite brands founded by women fashion designers under one roof. The boutique is located in an area that was once called the "French Concession" (this part of the city was under French administration) and occupies the first floor of an inconspicuous brick house built in the 1930s. Atelier tao+c studio, which is known for its spectacular public spaces, was responsible for the interior of the new concept store. This project was no exception, as you can see as soon as you step over the threshold of the store.

First you get into a long concrete corridor, in which there are recreation areas for visitors. Laconic metal benches are separated by a massive marble column supporting a metal beam. These three materials — concrete, metal and marble — are the main ones in the interiors of the concept store.

At the same time, the authors of the project tried to maintain a balance and harmoniously balance the "cold" materials with wooden furniture and wooden structures. And finally, in the farthest part of the store you will find a surprise: a semicircular glazed terrace, which overlooks the lush tropical garden in the backyard of the house. There you can sit on the wooden steps and meditate in silence, admiring the nature outside the window.
