Multicolored furniture designed by the studio Older

A breath of optimism and joy at the exhibition of the Danish-Italian duo in Milan's Nilufar Gallery.

Italian Letizia Karamia and Dane Morten Toussaint have developed a cheerful collection of Scarpette & Carolino furniture. Working on the project during the COVID-19 pandemic, the designers dreamed of creating things that would not just be functional furnishings, but also cheerful and optimistic companions. 

Like many other designers during the lockdown, Karamia and Tusen experimented a lot in their workshop in Tuscany, looking for unnecessary trimmings and details, repainting and cutting dissimilar pieces of metal. This is how the first prototypes of Scarpette & Carolino were born — they were assembled by hand by Father Karamia, an Italian artist and master. The multi-color palette of the collection has absorbed the shades of fictional flags, which were invented by Karamia and Tusen out of boredom.

The series includes several character items. So, Scarpette ("Boots”) is a bright stool with a round seat and three multicolored legs, the ends of which look like thin supports with a base. The designers sought to make them look like real feet in small shoes - hence the name of the stool. The Scarpette family also includes coffee and dining tables. The geometric Carolino trolley with a monochrome body, accent wheels and balls on the handles is designed not only to serve as an assistant during breakfast serving, but also to cheer up with its catchy design.
