The stylistics of a 120-meter apartment in a Stalinist house with a view of the main building of Moscow State University to designers Polina Gerasimova and Svetlana Kalimanova from the Ruger Design bureau was prompted by the history of the professor's house, and the identity of the customer — a Spanish philologist, a professor at Moscow State University, author of books on the development of Spanish literature, a passionate traveler and art lover.

The designers tried to preserve the atmosphere of the Moscow house, where in the evenings the whole family gathers at a round dining table, where they carefully store objects inherited from previous generations, read books and appreciate good painting.

In the combined space of the kitchen-dining room-living room, a round table with a lampshade, a family heirloom — an Art Nouveau buffet, a piano, and a collection of paintings by the hostess found a place for themselves.

Living room. Armchairs, vintage, GDR, 1960's, re-upholstered in Misia fabric. Poof, Loffilab. Vertigo chandelier, Petite Friture. Painting by the artist Vladislav Zubarev, 1990-e. Mirror, Zara Home. Carpet, Dovlet House.

There are no recognizable, mass-produced items in the setting, but there are a lot of vintage items restored and "dressed up" in new fabrics. In the living room, a surreal chandelier "hat" of the French firm Petite Friture contrasts with vintage armchairs from the 1960s.

The image of the master bedroom was influenced by the view from the window of a cozy Moscow courtyard with tall trees, which have managed to rise to the upper floors since the construction of the house. The second source of inspiration for designers is the buffet of the Art Nouveau era, which stands in the living room. The image of the forest, made by the modern artist Sergey Karev, is stylized in the spirit of landscape masterpieces of the early twentieth century. The lightbox supports a landscape theme.

"In each of our projects there is a monumental painting," Polina Gerasimova and Svetlana Kalimanova say, "and here, too, one of the walls of the apartment was given to the artist Sergey Karev for painting."

The study is placed on the balcony attached to the bedroom (the addition was officially registered many years ago), where not only a vintage desktop of the 1960s, but also bookshelves made to order according to the sketches of the authors of the project fit.

The son's room is designed in a deep blue color, which appeared here thanks to the work of the artist Valery Valus — it hangs on the wall behind the headboard of the bed. He is accompanied by white and red. The main character in this room is a vintage armchair from the 1980s.

The designers brought country elements to their daughter's room — another twist of the "natural theme". This decision made the bureau's furniture makers sweat a lot. "One of the cabinets was conceived by us with rattan facades without a substrate — to maintain a little transparency and circulation. A month later, the smooth rattan cloth went "wave". Our furniture makers had to think about the technology, and from the second time everything turned out perfectly," Polina and Svetlana recall.

In summer and autumn, the window in my daughter's room is almost completely covered with the greenery of trees that have grown in the yard, so the country theme, which is supported by a vintage rattan armchair, rattan cabinet doors, and a curtain pattern, is very useful here — the room looks as if it is not in a Moscow apartment, but in a country house.

The transition from the master bedroom to the bathroom is made through a spacious dressing room. The bathroom was designed as an independent room — a chest of drawers made according to the sketches of the authors of the project acts as a base for the sink.

In the hallway, the designers emphasized the hostess's hobbies — she is a passionate traveler. The walls are painted olive green, the floor is white stone, as if taken from the streets of the Andalusian city. The final touch is a ceramic panel created in the DirtyHands interior ceramics studio. There's something Spanish about him, too.
