Customers were looking for an opportunity to live in the historical center of Kazan — the buildings here are low, the courtyards are spacious and quiet, city gardens are nearby. The house in which they managed to buy an apartment was built in 1956 and has all the advantages of Stalinism: the apartments have high ceilings and large windows.
"The hostess is engaged in the preservation of the architectural heritage of the city by her occupation and is very sensitive to the preservation of identity," says designer Maria Bazhina. — Therefore, it was decided to make an interior that corresponds to the spirit and atmosphere of the district, but at the same time so that it does not "smell like mothballs"."

In order for the apartment to meet modern ideas of comfort, it was slightly redeveloped. The entrance to the kitchen was moved from the corridor to the living room — as a result, a common space appeared,
separated by swing doors. In the bedroom and study, the doorways were moved in such a way that two isolated rooms turned out. Dressing rooms were organized in the bedroom and hallway.

The color scheme did not have to look for a long time, it developed easily and naturally. "I first came to this apartment in the summer," recalls Maria Bazhina. — At this time of year, the house is surrounded by greenery, which tends to get into the apartment through the window. We decided not to hinder this and launch a slightly complicated green color into the interior."
At the request of the customer, a warm color scheme was chosen, the designer suggested adding diluted shades of yellow, which were approved during heated discussions. When all the materials were collected on one mudboard, it became clear that yellow was appropriate here. A small amount of yellow pigment was added to the white paint used to paint the ceiling, which created a warm and cozy atmosphere.

The color smoothly passes from room to room and unites them into a single harmonious space. The complex green shade of the walls in the living room has found its continuation on the kitchen facades, and the blue inclusions that can be seen on the floor echo the color of the walls in the bathroom.

The first item purchased in the new apartment was an Indian kilim. It was originally planned to lay it in the living room, but it turned out to be small in size and was moved to the study. The geometry of the patterns on the kitchen tile and the screen made by the masters of the national brand Tatar Home, which stands in the bedroom, are selected in accordance with the pattern on the kilim.

The geometry set by the kilim pattern was softened by the floral print on the William Morris wallpaper in the bedroom and the streamlined shape of the tile on the apron in the kitchen.

The situation was going bit by bit. Since the budget was limited, we had to find a balance between well-known modern brands and items found at flea markets and from private individuals. Several items (a table in the study and a sideboard in the living room) remained from the previous owners and harmoniously fit into the new environment.

Some items have been waiting in the wings for a long time before getting into this interior. From the beginning of work on the project and up to the settlement of the couple, it was not possible to find suitable wall lamps in the corridor, until one day Maria Bazhina caught the eye of an ad by a Kazan artisan who is engaged in stained glass windows of local temples. In his workshop, there were stunning handmade sconces gathering dust in the far corner. They fit perfectly into the interior and especially please the hostess, illuminating the space with soft light.

The owners were so carried away by the repair process that it went beyond the apartment. They have already refreshed the walls in the entrance and, together with the neighbors, replaced the depressing-looking entrance porch. They have plans to do landscaping of the park in front of the house. And then, you see, the neighboring houses will catch up.

Bathroom. The mirror and the Zinger frame were found at a flea market. Vase and soap dish, Serax. There are glossy tiles on the walls, Decocer. On the floor there is porcelain tile, Octagon Top.
