Old house with modern interior in Italy

Architect Matteo Aroldi turned an old manor house in the Italian countryside into a modern, comfortable accommodation for rest and reception of guests

Emilia-Romagna is a region in northern Italy that is famous for Parma ham, magnificent nature and celebrities — for example, composer Giuseppe Verdi and film director Federico Fellini were born here. The owner of the house in question chose this region not by chance. He wanted to live away from the hustle and bustle of big cities, in a quiet place in the bosom of nature. Therefore, he purchased several historical buildings in the countryside and invited the architect Matteo Aroldi to take up the project.

Since the owner of the house was used to living with urban comfort, he wanted to get a modern space where he could relax in silence or arrange dinners for numerous friends. In the main building, the architects have preserved and put in order historical details — massive wooden beams, tile floors, complementing all this with designer modern furniture and accessories. In the rest of the buildings, where the stables used to be located, and now the kitchen and dining room are located, there are white self-leveling floors and textured plaster on the walls.

The project is dominated by light colors — white, shades of gray. Dark wood, reminiscent of the traditional houses of Emilia-Romagna, goes well with them. All cabinet furniture is made to order: it is characterized by minimalistic shapes and maximum simplicity, which perfectly suits the rustic atmosphere of this house. Upholstered furniture and accessories, on the contrary, are distinguished by sophistication and elegance, giving the interior a cosmopolitan character.
