Provocative Maximalism: Annabel's Club in London

The most famous club in the world was honored by the Queen herself with her visit — we talk about the interiors of the famous Annabel's designed by Martin Brudnicki

The world's most famous Annabel's Club is located in an old Georgian mansion on Berkeley Square. And it's not even about the famous honorary members of the institution — the Prince of Wales, Richard Nixon and Frank Sinatra, the club is also the only institution of its kind in the world visited by the Queen of Great Britain. This year Annabel's opened the doors of the renovated space designed by the Swedish architect Martin Brudnizki (Martin Brudnizki Design Studio) to the guests.

While working on the project, the designer carefully studied the specifics and traditions of English closed clubs and relied on the two main passions of the inhabitants of Foggy Albion — animals and gardens. However, Martin went even further and elevated the concept to the absolute, adding energetic luxury, eccentricity and kitsch.

The space includes two bars, a nightclub, a smoking room, a garden, as well as bathrooms that deserve special attention. Upon entering Annabel's, the guest is immersed in the atmosphere of a decadent paradise. And if at first the suspended sculpture of a unicorn on the stairs may seem pretentious, then in the interior the visitor understands that in fact every object and element here are subject to inner harmony.

Directly adjacent to the nightclub is the Jungle Bar. In accordance with the name, a real riot of ornaments falls on the visitor: the furniture is upholstered with textiles with prints of crocodile and zebra, the wall panels are decorated with images of exotic birds, tropical plants and animals. The room is decorated with large-scale floor-to-ceiling lamps in the form of palm trees made of brass and blown glass, and the bar counter is decorated with panels in the eglomize technique.

Behind a shiny door with a gold handle, the Legacy bar is hidden — only for members of the club. The green agate floor and antique mirrored walls are complemented by a collection of art objects, including works by Modigliani, Chagall and Picasso.

A soft pink shade was chosen for the women's bathroom. Marble is interspersed with eccentric details: cranes in the form of golden swans, a corduroy tent ceiling and antique mirrors.
