Reconstruction of a 1984 house in Connecticut

Studio Stewart-Schafer sought to give the almost 40-year-old house modern features, but at the same time emphasize its original architecture

Having decided to move from New York to Connecticut, the founders of the Stewart-Schafer studio spent a whole year searching for a new home. But it was not in vain: this townhouse, located in the middle of the forest in the city of Easton, immediately won their hearts. "The architecture of the house and the plot itself were incredible. It is clear that the original owners invested a lot of love in it, not a single detail was missed," the designers say.

The building was built in 1984. According to the couple, the previous owners did not maintain it in proper condition, so several things needed to be repaired and replaced. During the reconstruction, the designers completely changed part of the windows and doors, renovated the second living room, kitchen and bathroom and refreshed the interiors of the rooms.

In the design, the designers preferred the japandi style, which organically fits the original wooden floors, ceiling beams and joinery. A palette of earthy shades and natural textures complement the forest landscapes that open from panoramic windows.

The main living space is located on the ground floor. The living room and dining room are connected by a kitchen decorated with white tiles. There is also a master bedroom with access to the indoor pool. Upstairs there is another bedroom, which the designers have turned into a sitting area with a fireplace and a large modular sofa. On the ground floor there is an office and technical rooms.
