The cinema of 1908 was reconstructed in Berlin

The architects of Batek Architekten carefully restored the neoclassical interior of the 1908 cinema, adding several bright modern details to it

One of Berlin's oldest cinemas, the Yorck Kino Passage, recently opened after restoration. The Batek Architekten bureau, which worked on a new interior concept, respected the neoclassical building's decoration, but still added new details in accordance with the spirit of the times.

The appearance of the foyer has not changed much, with the exception of new cork panels, behind which the staff rooms are hidden. The main color scheme was the original floors of a reddish-brown shade, with which the pistachio arches of the bar contrast. "We wanted to preserve the floor as part of the architectural heritage and in choosing a color palette we started from it. Then we wanted to add something bright and unexpected — that's how pistachio arches appeared," they say in the studio.

As part of the reconstruction, existing materials were reused. The new bar is lined with panels of Korten steel, which was decorated with the original bar counter. The studio also restored brass lamps and elegant plaster moldings.

In an effort to create a more intimate atmosphere in the cinema halls, the architects used bright, deep colors. The walls of the first hall are decorated with dark blue fabric, which enhances the warm "glow" of rows of yellow chairs. The second hall is an interpretation of the classic interior of the cinema, where the walls and seats are made in red tones.
