"The Legacy of the Tretyakov Gallery": a new Bernardaud series with works by Boris Kustodiev

The French brand Bernardaud presents the final part of the collection "The Legacy of the Tretyakov Gallery", created specifically for Russia with the participation of the country's main museum. This time the service was decorated with the works of Boris Kustodiev.

The French brand Bernardaud, on the initiative of Mercury, has created several porcelain tea sets specially for Russia, decorated with the works of the greatest Russian artists. We have been following their release since 2020 — first there was a series with works by Ivan Shishkin, last year - with paintings by the marine artist Ivan Aivazovsky. Finally, the final collection is dedicated to the work of Boris Kustodiev and, of course, the Russian winter.
A distinctive feature of Kustodiev's works is decorativeness, deliberate brightness with unexpected color combinations. The artist loved to depict the Russian fair, so the curators of the Tretyakov Gallery, together with Mercury and Bernardaud masters, selected paintings of the winter celebration reflecting the quintessence of his work.
The first canvas – “Walking" (1922) - is an ideal picture of a happy life. At that time, the artist was confined to a wheelchair and could not paint from nature, so the panorama of the mass festivities is his dream. The artist admires the sun on the walls of houses and shadows on the snow. He shows life as it can be when it is in full swing.
The second painting - "Maslenitsa" (1922) - was created in the same year as the first canvas, so they feel similar. Kustodiev depicts a panorama of the city, where ancient churches grow against the background of snow-covered hills, sleighs look out from behind snowdrifts, bells on sleds ring - everything breathes joy and enthusiasm.
The paintings are applied to a tea set of two pairs, equipped with a certificate of authenticity. The series are available in a limited edition of 100 copies.
