The Soviet "panel" is not a verdict: repair in the apartment of the P-44 series

Alyona Vlasova turned the 1990 Brezhnevka into a bright and cozy home in just four months

The living room is a relaxation room, there is a comfortable sofa, a roomy and now rare Ikea wall "Besto", left over from the previous tenants of this apartment with sections for books, things and appliances, a cozy wool carpet, and also a vintage armchair for cozy gatherings.

If you got an apartment of the P-44 series, it means that you will have to restrain your desires: you cannot move the walls in such an apartment. There are, of course, exceptions, but in most cases the only thing that can be done is to combine the bathroom with the toilet and attach the hallway to the living room. Designer Alyona Vlasova admits that this project was an experiment for her: she had never had to work in such conditions.

"The customer is a woman in years, bright and emotional, a real extrovert, like me," says Alyona. "She gave me a full carte blanche, but a minimal budget, so I had to use my wits and all my talents to stay within the allocated resources, and from an old 32-year-old "panel" to make a nice, comfortable, cozy and, importantly, an investment-attractive apartment with a non-banal interior."

Since it is impossible to redevelop a typical panel (Alyona only glazed the loggia, removed the door to the kitchen, demolished the old mezzanine in the hallway and made a dressing room behind a curtain instead of a closet), the apartment was renovated mainly due to spectacular decorative solutions.

"I like interiors that have some kind of mystery"

In the kitchen, Alyona added funny lamps to the improvised arches, which everyone now calls "the eyes of the kitchen". Chairs, Kartell. Buffet, La Redoute. Bra, Favorite.

"I started from the principle of "anti—vandalism", because the hostess did not want to get involved in a new renovation for another 10 or even 15 years," the designer explains.

Based on this approach, water—resistant quartz vinyl was chosen for the floor, and for the walls - very durable and nevertheless eco-friendly fiberglass (they are also called vitrulin), which were then painted with interior paint with a high abrasion class.

The "chip" of the entire apartment in general and the bedroom in particular was an artistic painting — bright palm leaves on an unusual geometric background. A small bedroom with low ceilings no longer seems cramped, the boundaries of the perception of volume have been erased. Now it is very pleasant to fall asleep and wake up under a palm tree, dreaming of new achievements and thinking about "what the coming day has in store for us."

After choosing the wallpaper, it was the turn of the "battle of paints": American Avalon and domestic Magestic Matt and Ottinger with ceramic particles were used to paint the walls, then comparing them with each other (they were evaluated by the degree of matte finish, the ability to wash and wash various traces of life with water and a hard sponge). All these paints proved themselves to be "excellent", Russian turned out to be no worse than imported.

"It seems to me that only in Russia there is such a thing as a bedroom-study," says Alyona. — In two-room apartments, this is a very popular and convenient solution." Table lamp, IKEA.

"Fiberglass has a texture — it's like a matting fabric in a diagonal stripe. From a meter, the drawing is almost invisible, but this texture meanwhile makes the space more cozy. In order to dilute its uniformity, I used mirrors, a large amount of decor and panels made of the most ordinary 10 mm MDF, painted in bright colors. Thus, we have a very photographic interior — at least now take a selfie against its background and post it on social networks."

"I find apartments interesting where there is some kind of mystery," says the author of the project. — Here the dressing room is shielded from prying eyes by a heavy curtain, in the drawing of which almost all the colors of the interior are present. And almost everyone who enters is interested in what is behind it: what if this time the entrance to Narnia?"

The apartment has a lot of storage spaces designed, you can place not only the necessary things, but also sports equipment: skates, snowboard, skis or things for hobbies, and even there is where to put grandma's jam.

The repair was carried out under the motto "maximum effect for a minimum budget". In the hallway, the clothes hanger was independently cooked by Alyona Vlasova's husband. It was no longer enough for a bench, and it was later bought from the masters in Tula.

For the entrance door, the designer used the principle of recycling, that is, she gave her a second life — the interior of the door was completely modernized, the locks and handle were changed, and a brand-new mdf panel was glued on top, where the name of Alyona Vlasova's studio and at the same time the concept of this apartment was cut out with a milling cutter: Sweet flat.
