This apartment has two floors and two kitchens — a full-fledged one where food is prepared and guests are received, and a compact one, next to a summer terrace. Designer Ulyana Skaptsova tells about the features of the project, including a bright library and an unusual sink

This is a two-storey apartment with an impressive outdoor terrace and a cozy balcony. The customer wanted to place two nurseries for his sons, an office for work and a large area for guests, as he likes to arrange dinners and socialize with friends.

A large public area of the kitchen-living room and library was planned on the ground floor. But the traditional TV should not have become the center of attraction in such an apartment. Instead, the central place had to be taken under a large dining table for long dinners with wine and an island for cooking and gatherings with friends.
On the same floor there is a dressing room for outerwear, a library, a master bedroom and a bathroom attached to it, an office, a guest bathroom.

Most of all in this apartment I am impressed by the "stone island" — it sounds funny, because there really is such an island in St. Petersburg. We have been choosing marble for him for a long time: the option originally included in the project was no longer available, this quarry in China has been exhausted forever and such a variety can no longer be found. But Indian marble with onyx inclusions under the attractive name Himalayan Green attracted us the most. He "assembled" the living room space with a library and added textures to a rather neutral interior.

In addition, my thrift did not allow me to part with the remains of the slab so easily. We made coffee tables out of them, abandoning rectangular and round shapes. The models turned out to be in the form of clouds, in the sense of echoing the theme of the picture.

We used the color-block technique to create an enveloping atmosphere in the library. I wanted to reproduce the feeling of burying myself with a book in the fresh leaves of an August maple warmed by the sun. Or he dived into a cool lake — on a blue sofa.

My favorite technique is creating contrasts. For example, we have a dense green library, and next to it the main living room is light and delicate. Or one guest bathroom is made dark, like a fox hole, and the other is light, but they are united by the same material — tiles from the same collection.

Three bedrooms were placed on the second floor, a dressing room was added for the children's rooms, a small area was allocated for the kitchen serving the terrace, a corner was made for children's sports activities and a zone for gatherings near the kitchen. There is also a spacious bathroom with a large shower.

Most of the furniture was made to order, but a few vintage or second-hand items were added, which were updated. Basically, these are chairs. A pair of Bulgarian armchairs from the 1950s came from the Urals from my grandmother, I decided to restore them, pulled them over and put them into the project. The other four chairs were the property of the customer, we refreshed them with a new light fabric.

The classic and well-loved technique with mirrors also did not go unnoticed. I put three-dimensional mirrors on the entire wall to maximize the use of light refraction and expand the space — in the entrance area, in the bedroom, in the bathrooms and in the second kitchen.
Lighting was also used — there is really a lot of it here (electricians even grumbled a little, which is too much). This is the illumination of shelves and shelves, stairs, niches — both vertical and horizontal, working on a motion sensor. Working with lighting scenarios is very important, because when light appears, the perception of the interior changes dramatically.

I don't really like wallpaper: over time, they need care, and their appearance deteriorates, so I switched to painting a long time ago. I have a master with an academic education who understands me perfectly, so in this project, especially in children's, there are beautiful embodiments of fabulous ideas. Children are proud of their rooms and love to spend time there.

Already while working on the project, I met a company that makes concrete sinks in the terrazzo technique. At first, the guys and I made a light shell, but they didn't like it, and they offered to redo it. Then I took advantage of the situation and decided to change it to a dark one. In addition, I invited myself to their workshop and laid out the pieces of stones myself. And I also brought with me natural stones and crystals that I once bought at stone exhibitions to complete the composition.

It was important to me that the project was completed to the end in the form in which it was conceived. It almost turned out to be done: at the end, the budget was limited, and we finished the nursery with strong changes. This is not critical, because the rooms can be changed over time — along with growing sons. It was also not possible to implement all the ideas on the terrace, for which there were big plans.

But the costs of the parquet board, built-in cabinet furniture, high-quality tiles and plumbing remained almost unchanged from the original budget, which means that the quality of the project was not lost.
