For adults and children, one and two, in the living room, bedroom or on the balcony, we tell you how to beautifully and functionally design a workplace by the window.

Now almost every apartment has a mini-office for remote work or study. Since we write, read and sit at the computer a lot during the process, it is important that we do it comfortably. Therefore, the location of the working area near the window is considered especially successful: for both schoolchildren and adults. In this article we will look at the main points that need to be taken into account and show beautiful examples for different rooms: from the living room to a separate office and loggia.
Tips for arrangement
Advantages and disadvantages

This location of the study or work area has its advantages and disadvantages.
Positive
Minuses

Location
The main issue that needs to be solved when designing a room with a work area by the window is its location.

It is believed that it is most correct when natural light comes from the left, so as not to block it with your hand when writing and not to create shadows. But this is not the only option.
In some cases, the reverse location is also uncritical when the opening is on the right. For example:
And the third, quite popular solution is to place a home office not on the side, but opposite the window, facing it. In this case, there will definitely be no uncomfortable shadows. The table can be a classic desk or extended from the windowsill, both options are suitable, the main thing is that the surface is at a comfortable height.
Thus, the only undesirable layout is the one in which the work area is installed so that the person will sit with his back to the window.

Filling
The content of a work or study corner depends on who uses it and for what purposes.

For one person
The minimum required set is a place to read, write or work, a comfortable chair and at least one small storage system. If you have a desktop computer with a system unit or two monitors, then you will definitely need a fairly wide and high desk. A small countertop is enough for a laptop. You can even replace the classic model with a dressing table, a dressing table with a free surface, or use a window sill for this purpose. If there is very little space, a folding countertop that is attached to the wall is a good option. This solution is suitable for a small loggia or bedroom, where you need to leave a free passage.
The chair also depends on the specific features. Someone needs a soft office chair with a back, and someone will have enough of a stool. For small spaces, it is better to choose compact models with thin legs and, if it is convenient, without a backrest, so the seat can be completely pushed under the countertop and free up space.
The storage system is also organized depending on the work or study routine. It can be:

Working area by the window for two
When organizing a work area by the window for two schoolchildren or adults, first of all, you need to think about zoning. Ideally, provide at least minimal privacy so that children or, for example, spouses, do not interfere with each other to study and work. This can be achieved by placing two countertops on opposite sides of the opening so that people sit with their backs to each other. In addition, there will be free space between the workstations.
But this option is not always possible, so often two zones are located side by side. It can be two identical tables standing close to each other, or one solid tabletop. If two people do not interfere with each other or work at different times, you can leave everything as it is. If you need to separate the zones, put a light solid partition between the tables or build it from the storage system. Also remember about lighting: the workplace that is further from the window needs additional illumination, since there will be less natural light.

Sun protection
Finally, when planning the design of the work area by the window in the nursery, bedroom, living room or office, we must not forget about the opening itself.

It is important not only to choose a comfortable table and chair and organize storage, but also to make sure that bright daylight does not interfere with studying or working.
What you need to consider:

Ideas for different rooms
Let's consider the design options for a mini-office using the example of specific premises and taking into account their features.
Living room

The most difficult task when designing a home office in the living room is to ensure privacy and silence in the work area. It is not always easy to do this, since the hall is a common space where people relax, communicate and receive guests. The easiest way is if one person or a couple lives in an apartment, in this case there are usually no problems. It is simple enough to organize a comfortable corner at the opening and choose furniture in accordance with the overall style of the room.
If additional privacy is needed, partitions are used. These can be wooden slats, glass screens or a plasterboard wall. For more functionality, a shelving or even a shallow cabinet can be turned into a partition. The main thing is to make sure that the zoning is organized in such a way that it does not block the flow of light into the rest of the living room, especially if there is only one window.

Bedroom
The bedroom is perfect for decorating a work corner, because it is a secluded impassable room.

The standard layout looks like this: a wardrobe or other storage system at the entrance, then a bed, and behind it there is just a little space for other furniture. It can be a dressing table or just the same work area. If the area of the room is small, and you need both, these two functions are sometimes combined. Also, the workplace can be organized right at the opening by allocating a wide window sill for it or by making a folding table top. Finally, a completely "extreme" option for a tiny bedroom is to replace the bedside table with a compact table. Of course, this is not a full-fledged space for work, but it is enough to accommodate a laptop or tablet.

Office
If the apartment has a separate room that can be used as an office, you are very lucky.

In this case, you do not need to think about zoning and worry about silence during work or study, and no one will bother you during online meetings. Regardless of the size of the room, it makes sense to organize the work area closer to the window in order to fill it with natural light. Choose the location depending on your own convenience: you can put a table in front of the window and admire the beautiful view, sometimes taking breaks (especially if you have a beautiful view or panoramic glazing), or place it perpendicular to the opening.
If the size of the cabinet allows, you can organize several storage systems: for example, a cabinet or shelving, drawers and wall shelves. In this case, think over everything so that what you need all the time is at hand: for example, allocate a place near the countertop for documents, a diary and an office.

Children's room with a work area by the window
If the nursery is not intended for a baby, but for a junior and older, then there must be a zone for studying and developing hobbies in it.

The option of location at the window opening is suitable for one child, and for two or even three. Tables can be placed according to the principle of kitchen set layouts: linear, L- or U-shaped. Furniture should be eco-friendly, safe and, most importantly, comfortable for the child. Since children are growing up fast, a table and a height-adjustable chair will be a good solution so you don't have to buy a new kit in a year or two.
It is important to think about storage systems. The working area by the window for a girl or a boy assumes the same approach to organizing order: everything that children use themselves should be in the nearest access and folded so that it is convenient to put the thing in place. If there is something that the child should not take out on his own, it is better to hide it upstairs: for example, on a high shelf or in the far compartment of a bookcase. If possible, create an opportunity for creativity: hang a perforated panel or slate next to the study corner, on which children can draw, take notes or write down their schedule.

Balcony
Another great place for a small home office is a heated glazed loggia.

A few square meters will be quite enough to accommodate a comfortable desk, an armchair and a couple of shelves or shelving. And if the balcony is spacious, then it can be zoned and allocated a part, for example, for a recreation area, a mini-library or storage. The main thing when organizing a home office here is to provide good protection from the sun, since the glazing area on the loggia is large in any case. Hang blinds, roll-up or Roman blinds, preferably from blackout fabric, so that you can block excess sunlight. If the person who will work on the balcony is not left-handed, it is better to place the table so that the light falls on the left.
